Title: ST1300 oil filter size ??
Post by: Wayne'o on April 08, 2013, 06:04:15 PM
I have looked in the manual and service manual for the size of the oil filter
and can't find it. I just trying to match it up with a cup style filter remover

Just a quick measurement under the bike showed it around 67mm.

Can anyone confirm or otherwise?

When you get it of consider a K&N filter.....have a 17mm nut on the back of the filter.....no need for plastic removal etc.....very easy to drop the filter off & back on again.

And there $18 each delivered from ZEN Motorcycles one of our preferred suppliers....

For your consideration mate.....

Cheers

Oil filter pack of 3 including the removing tool you asking about.

3 OEM filters plus tool $US36.90

15010-MCE- PACK

http://www.davidsilverspares.co.uk/ (http://www.davidsilverspares.co.uk/)

I bought the same set for my 1100 a couple years ago. Tool fits OEM filters ok but not the REPCO one I have in at the moment.

Thanks guys for the replies and I have already ordered a K&N oil and air filter.

However.....I still have to remove the old one but I don't know what size it is.

Does anyone know the diameter?

65mm in diameter.

It's your choice of spanner or wrench to use. I prefer a seatbelt type as I also do cars and 4wds. One wrench fits all.

I am about to do an oil /filter change on st1300. I was investigating what is the best oil filter wrench and I came across this one. It is 65mm diameter 14 flutes. I don't know if the filter is 14 flutes as it is difficult to check whilst it is on the bike.

Any advice on this please.

John,

Just went out to the garage and examined a brand new genuine filter. It is about 64.5mm across the flats and has 14 sides (Tetradecagon???), so it will fit.

I'm going to get one myself.

Thanks,

Hendo

Thanks Hendo. I just went out and checked the clearance. I am just a little concerned if the metal of the wrench may be too thick to fit all around the filter. I can't see properly but it looks like a manifold above the exhaust. The clearance between the filter and it is very tight.

The thickness on the filter is 5mm. It is difficult to check if it will clear.

I'll let you know if it fits when i get it in a couple weeks. If it doesnt, no great loss as it can you my 4 other filter removers. For the price of a cup of coffee, its worth a try.

For $5 it is worth a try.  Yes, I would be interested to see if it fits.

That looks good Bill. I tried to find it on the net. The only one I could find was in the UK. Do you know where you purchased it? Autobarn have one but it is the larger size and I think it is too big.

Try Supercheap Auto first and then Repco.

Its chief limitation is the length of it means that you only get about 30o of swing between the exhaust pipe and the centre stand, so you have to keep on loosening and tightening it.  But it's only for the actual initial removal and final tightening.  The rest you do with your fingers.

This works for me and used on my last filter change over. Is meant to make it a little easier for the elderly and others to open jars http://ilcaustralia.org.au/products/4882 (http://ilcaustralia.org.au/products/4882)

I found it at Autobarn. They have it listed on their website - but only the large one, which is too big for the Honda. However, When I called in there they had a smal one on the shelp for $9.00.

This works best and is a genuine Honda part

Did you do a special under-bike clean for that shot?  It's unnaturally sterile.     :eek

Very good photo of the location.

You can just use one screw driver and stab the blighter to loosen it.  Works a treat, but a little bit messier than the usual boring unscrewing process.     :grin

No special clean. I think the bike had only done about 10,000 kms when that photo was taken. It had also done most of those kms on dry sealed road.
