Issue engaging first gear
«
on:
July 14, 2015, 07:46:41 PM »
Morning,
Getting some occasional grief engaging first gear. Best way I can describe it is when pressing down from neutral a series of clicks before finding first is heard and felt. not all the time- perhaps one in 10.
Any ideas would be greatly received
Cheers

You may need to bleed the clutch system, there could be an air bubble in the line.

How old is the engine oil, and what oil are you using ?
What is the level of the fluid in the clutch reservoir ?
When was the last time the (complete) clutch system fluid changed ?
Having said the above, my clutch is a little "clunky" in the mornings.

Sharing tablets with the kids......
Hope they are the pretty pink ones ;)
Could well be any one of the above. Only recently picked up the bike and was "assured" that a service was done with minimal Kms done since- although it was in storage for a bit.
Links like the best solution is an oil change followed by the other fluids and see what happens. Probably not a bad idea anyway.
Thanks all
Muchly appreciated

If your bike has an unproven service history, a full set of fluid changes might be a good idea and a baseline for preventative maintenance.
I'd do Oil, Coolant, Clutch and All Brake fluids.

Agree with all of the above.... Except the tablets.... But have you also considered warming up the engine sufficiently ? Is the problem occurring also when the engine is hot?

The bike gets to idle for a fair whack before I get anywhere (still forget - must put on helmet before gloves).
Same problem can still happen at any given point through the day. On a mission now to change the fluids. Looking forward to putting in practice all the guides that have previously been posted
