I've been back home for three weeks but not active on the site.

Suffice to say for now that things didn't work out in Port Hedland the way I hoped. I tossed the job after four days mainly due to health reasons (stress or to much stress would be closer).

I saw the doc today (first chance I had) and it looks like I have depression issues. If I can handle the medication ok I should be ok in a few weeks or months (hopefully).

Sorry things didn't work out for you up there.
Your health always comes 1st Alan.
I hope the medication starts to work for you and makes things a little easier.
It would be good to see you if you do make it on Saturday, we will wait and see.

Sorry to learn that Alan. I too had problems with the 'black dog' and took up restoring old Japanese motorbikes. This helped me more than pills, and when ever I feel that dog sniffing around again I just get on bike and go somewhere. Also found dark chocolate makes me feel better sometimes too. Ah Crap, sorry to hear that Alan.

If you feel up to it, you can post all here (or PM even). It can help to air the problem with friends, we wont poo poo you if you do. I have seen it on other forums (fora??) where this has been done, and recovery has been much faster. Of course, having an ST to ride helps blow the worries away for a while and allows the subconcious to work things out.

Sorry to hear the job didn't work out, but as the guys have said, your health is more important.
I hope you're medication works out and you start to feel better soon. It can take a few tries before they get it right so don't worry if it doesn't work straight away. If you find you have bad side effects get them to change to a different brand straight away. (don't put yourself through lots of pain hoping it'll get better)

And remember if you're feeling down, we are here for you even if it's just having someone to chat to from time to time, it may help

Thanks for the support or other words to that effect.

One of the biggest headaches was Centrelink after I got back but payment restored today allowing me to re- register the bike for Saturday. Even got an apology from the girl on the phone for the run around they gave me two weeks ago.

The medication supposedly will make me feel "a little wonky, maybe nausea as well". The docs words not mine but only for the first two/three days so Saturday RTE should be ok.

One of the reasons why Heather and I want to make it to our RTE this weekend. Three hours each way might help a little.

When ever I feel down I try to be an optimist and tell myself that tomorrow is going to be better than today was.

Hi Alan,

Sorry your job didn't work out, but I'm a great believer in "things happen for a reason". If it's been found that you have depression issues (my daughter suffered this years ago and it still crops up some 20 years down the track), you're better off in familiar surroundings (your own home) and under a good Doctor's care.

Just having someone to talk to about it can help immeasurably too, especially if they or someone in their family have been down that track as well.

I survived the first days anti-depressant meds. Only side effect I noticed was a headache which is minor compared to the expected side effects.

I generally live one day at time as that's all anyone can do, plus there maybe someone else worse off than I might be.......

The Doc arranged a counsellor to call me yesterday for a meeting today but I'm still waiting for the phone call. Granted I was on the phone with Centrelink for over an hour yesterday but that's no reason not to call back later or on another day..........wait and see, I guess.

Another visit to the doc in two weeks so she can see how the meds went.

Alan, if you have the councillor's number try calling him/her first. You never know, they may have mislaid your number or been busy with another client and time got away on them.
My daughter said her councillor was excellent for her.
They don't get the job unless they're worthy of it.

It's possible since it's a three day week. And I don't know the number yet.

I've just got back from the doc and it's only the second time I've seen her with another visit due in six weeks time.

So far everything seems to be ok or at least improving as far as the depression side of things go. Medication working I guess.

Also a visit to the optometrist yesterday confirmed that I need new reading glasses as smaller print is proving hard to read. So it wasn't just my imagination.

That is good news from the doc. I am glad to hear it.
On another note if you need glasses try google ZENI optical.

Their prices are a fraction of what Aus. suppliers charge and their on line service and ordering is a great service.
A huge range of frames to select from, and as cheap as, compared to Aus.
All you need is a current optical prescription for them to follow and dispense the new lenses from .
We have dealt with them and have had great results.

Re the glasses. With the extras health cover and Specsavers I get two pair and no gap. So one pair of readers and one pair of sun glasses which almost covers the monthly premium over a year.

I also deal with the black dog mate.

Words are words but follow those whose deeds you respect.

One bit of advice ( and advice being what it is you canchose to follow, modify or ignore) .is to give your wife permission to tell you when you are being down.

It is amazing the preasure your partnercan be under sometimes when THEYcan see you on a downward spiral but YOU ( you , me and other BDog warriors) dont yet see or recognise.

My wife and I have a safe word which she will say prior to mentioninganything to do with a potentially emotional comment. It is agreedand understood that when this word is used I am not allowed to get angry or emotional in my reaponse. I must just listen and then think prior to making comment.

This has stopped a lot of arguments spiralling out of control when either her or my emotions are clouded for some reason.

Just a thought.
