Pockets in both of them!!  Now that's really sensible.  Most of my jackets lack them and I think that's a major oversight.

The Jacket also has 3 internal pockets for mobile, wallet, glasses etc......the vest has 2 internal pockets so the vest can be reversed ..... :thumbsup

A new cool weather jacket is currently on trial, the embroidery is unchanged.... here's the stats on the garment....

Mens and Ladies Layer (Softshell) Jacket

Details
94% Polyester for durability, and 6% Elastane for stretch
325gsm three-layer bonded soft shell fabric
urban fit
Four-way stretch fabric for unbounded movement
Micro fleece lining
Two zip-up pockets and an internal mobile phone pocket
Adjustable elastic hem with toggle
Waterproof to 8000mm rating

Pockey has the only Jacket as a trial at the moment as we still get evenings and mornings crisp enough here in the New England that will give it a fair shake down, the Jacket will increase in price by approximately $10 compared to the current non weather resistant Jacket.

If the trial is successfully the Jackets will be available well before spring/winter next year. There is a short turn around time for these and current Jackets as they are purchased and embroided as required. The jacket should be a good substitute for the lighter weight winter riding Jackets liner.....gives the option of a wind/waterproof(ish) layer that is then suitable to wear to the pub after the riding day is done  :think1

Watch this space for updates......Pockey is really looking forward to the first horrible, cold rainy day to put the Jacket to the test  :rofl And she wonders why I ordered the Jacket in her size  :nahnah

Spent an hour in the jacket outside last night in around 12 degrees while we were doing jobs in the yard for an upcoming 21st birthday party. The jacket is as warm as my other softshell jackets that cost lots more than this one.

The jacket is a size 10 and the sleeves are a little long on me, but the fit and feel of the jacket is very cosy  :wink1

looks like the sleeves might actually be a little short when you consider the riding position.

thoughts on that?

The model in the last pic is a size 10 in most of her cloths, she is 5'9" so would need a 12 in this jacket due to sleeve length.....Pockey is a size 10 in her clothing but 5' 000136" and the sleeves are a little long on her.  :thumbsup

At the end of the day the jacket is not designed to be a "riding position" Jacket....it's just a jacket.

Cheers

New trial Jacket had another outing tonight on a 5klm walk (we feeling guilty after consuming left over Xmas pudding)

Cool here in the New England tonight outside.....10 degrees with a stiff breeze so more like 7 or 8 degrees. Jacket with only a T-Shirt underneath gets a massive  :thumbsup

We may have found a replacement shop garment  :think1

Did I read correctly, that it is waterproof, or at least showerproof?

The manufacturer claims it's waterproof......but here is my humble understanding of the rating applied after I was researching the subject for cold/wet weather garments when on a uniform advisor committee some year ago for work.

2 ratings are applied for outdoor garments.....One for water ingress and the other for breathability. Gortex is the only truly acceptable garment if you seek the best of both worlds.

So a test implement called a HH tester (Hydrostatic Head) is used. It's a 25mmsq Column that is filled with water.......the garment gets its rating from its ability to repel water to however many mm's of water.

In the real world in laymens terms......

2500mm to 5000mm is considered Showerproof, 5000mm to 10000mm is rainproof and 10000mm and above is truly waterproof.

So while the old yellow PVC style raincoat had a 10000mm plus rating at keeping water out you got saturated in it from your own sweat because it and no breathing qualities at all.....

This garment has a 8000mm rating......so for most people's use, getting caught in a shower of reasonable rain while active for a short period of time (30 mins) it will keep you dry where the water lands, it doesn't account for water getting under the garment by running down your collar or up your sleeves etc.

But when the water does eventually get through, they can take some time to dry out in my experience....

Hope this explanation from the dark depths of my memory helps.....

I was wearing mine in the cold and light showers at last weekends RTE at our place and was warm and dry. I did notice the chill sneezing through from the wind when the jacket was wet, but dried jacket with a towel and the chill went away.
