Hi Everyone,
Some of our Members require long range forecasts to obtain annual leave, and have asked me to consider putting up the dates and rough locations of the next few OzSTOC National Rallies.
I tried to avoid clashing with the Ulysses AGM and School Hols for that state....PLUS - location Vs climate for that region etc.
I am sorry if some dates can't suit you, but I have to play to the general rule, not exceptions. In saying that - there is plenty of notice below:
2012 - NSW - Blackheath
2013 - Middelton - S.A
2014 – Ballarat _ VIC
2015 – Toowoomba QLD - 20-21-22 March
2016 – WA - 11-12-13 March
2017 - Wooli NSW - 20-21-22 October
2018 - Mackay QLD - 10-11-12 August
2019 - Tasmania - 15 - 17 November
2020 - NSW - (MUDGEE] CANCELLED DUE TO COVID19
Start planning villains!
Cheers, Diesel

Just getting my intention to attend WA one in 2016 nice and early :p
:wht11 Pezzz

So I wonder how many bikes we can get in convoy to cross the paddock for 2016?
-
Good skills Diesel.
:hatwave
..... to avoid clashing with the Ulysses AGM and School Hols for that state....PLUS - location Vs climate for that region etc.
Don't think the 2017 Ulysses AGM has been announced as yet. What do you know Diesel???
Anyway they can work around OzSTOC.
2014 – Ballarat
2015 – QLD - 20-21 March
2016 – WA - 8-9 April
2017 - NSW - TBA
Dates are in my calendar, not sure what good it will do for so far in the future, but they're "in" anyway.
-
What the.... I thought this was an old joke thread... are we serious?
*starts planning*
-
I have already sent the dates to Teela so we can book them in :thumb
-
Excellent work on the long range forecasts.
I can see a lot of "around the country" trips now being planned as part of the WA AGM :thumbsup
-
No Tasmania or NT
-
No Tasmania or NT
Tassie is a special trip in itself, we talked about it, and we think we will make it a trip not a "rally" so to speak
NT is like WA involves a whole world of logistics, so we will knock down that door at some stage in the future
-
........ Tassie is a special trip in itself......
Ulysses 2016 AGM is 29 February to 6 March 2016 (according to http://tamartourers.ulyssesclub.org/News/tabid/4814/articleType/ArticleView/articleId/6502/Tamar-Tourers-Launceston-to-host-the-Ulysses-Club-2016-AGM-Event.aspx (http://tamartourers.ulyssesclub.org/News/tabid/4814/articleType/ArticleView/articleId/6502/Tamar-Tourers-Launceston-to-host-the-Ulysses-Club-2016-AGM-Event.aspx)).
Given costs involved with this part of the trip:
(http://i643.photobucket.com/albums/uu159/williamson_photos/Forum%20Inserts/MelbournetoDevonport_zps7224f0ab.png) (http://s643.photobucket.com/user/williamson_photos/media/Forum%20Inserts/MelbournetoDevonport_zps7224f0ab.png.html)
I reckon a large number or percentage of OzSTOC members would also be Ulysses members (do we have an idea on this one?), I think it would be prudent for serious consideration to be given for an OzSTOC trip to Tassie to coincide with the Ulysses AGM. Just my thoughts .......

I for one hope to be in Tassie for the Ulysses AGM 29th Feb- 6th March 2016 :hatwave
You only have to be 40 to be a Ulyssen :grin
You don't have to be "OLD" Just young at heart
Is that why a few don't have their age up :well
There are quite a few here >:()
-
..... well you old fogies can do this.....
Hey I'm not a fogy .....
...... I'm with him...
There's more than a month between the Ulysses 2014 2016 AGM at Launceston and the OZSTOC 2014 2016 AGM in WA, probably more than enough time for another event.
I for one hope to be in Tassie for the Ulysses AGM 29th Feb- 6th March 2016
Does two make an event?
-
Tassie is on our to do list for 2015/16 but nothing planned yet.
-
Good work Diesel :wink1
-
"Nice work" to the organizers. We can all start anticipating and plannign.
It's Tassie for us during the next Christmas/New Year period, and then another half lap biggie leaving around Easter 2015.
-
I'm hitting Tassie in October this year

Qld and WA events would have to be in some form of contention for the lap for some.
-
Excellent work Diesel. These dates sound great. :thumbsup
Will be able to put these on the roster at work and book these dates in. :grin
Pockey. :thumbs

Hi Everyone,

2016 – WA - 8-9 April
Wow a national Rally in April I should be able to make that one Wot thuh :rofl
-
I'm in for all of them.
Where's Qld, Sunshine Coast?
-
WA had better be rescheduled as school holidays start that weekend, accommodation will be hard to get unless we book now.
-
Gold Coast? ........ If it's at Birdsville , I'm busy that weekend.....
I'm in for all of them.

I'll be in Tassie for the Ulysses AGM, but because I am an old Fart and have added Work to my "Dirty 4 Letter Word" category, I should be able to make it to WA as well. :OldMan :beer

.....
2015 – QLD - 20-21 March .....
Gold Coast? ........ If it's at Birdsville , I'm busy that weekend.....
Good point there. Location will be important, but I'm sure (hope?) our organisers will select wisely, and on this assumption my planning has started. Wisely (IMO) would be SE QLD, or anywhere as far north as the Hervey Bay area would be fine, but the judges' decision will be accepted as final.
Victorian school holidays are also a factor for Mrs W (Helen), which around this time will be from Saturday 28 March to Sunday 12 April 2015. The AGM during the school term means Helen wont be able to attend - oh, what a shame!
But let me see (the scheming has started), mmmmmm:
* A two or three day ride to the AGM means time off work from Wednesday 18 March - that's achievable.
* AGM Friday 20 to Sunday 21 March.
* Then tootle around SE QLD for the week - I have some unfinished business at O'Shanley's Irish Hotel in Clifton (I'm sure some members are familiar with this establishment), and the Lions Road needs to be reviewed, and, and .......
* Helen flies up to SE QLD and we have a week from Saturday 28 March to Friday 3 April at some holiday resort, we have a usual place at Burleigh North we like.
* A week riding home to Melbourne
* Back to work Monday 13 April - yeah, that'll work.
I'll be needing (appreciate) some company riding up to QLD and tootling around the following week. If anyone is interested they'll have a year or more to decide.

Williamson - Better have yourself a rethink about them dates above.
The 2014 Ulysses AGM is at Alice Springs, 2015 - Albury Wodonga, 2016 Launceston

Good skills, fixed now (I think that's what I meant - I blame the drugs).
-
Logically, it's got to be SE Qld as the Rally incorporates a ride on the Saturday so the SEQ has em by the bucket loads. Toowoomba area would also be included in that.
We should start a sweepstake with some of the money raised going to the spinal unit or something...
-

I have an idea make it March
-
2016 WA planning has already started... Lots of hush-hush talks around the breaky table at this morning's RTE. 8)
-
I'm in for all of them.
Where's Qld, Sunshine Coast?
Pretty fair chance it won't be much further North at that time of year.

Please note the date change for WA 2016......this just needed to happen due to a number of reasons including conflicting with the commencement of WA school holidays and increased holiday tariffs.

As for future planning I can relax a little now since Tassie hasn't made the list yet.

Hi Everyone,
2017 - NSW - National Rally dates now released :runyay
Some of our Members require long range notification to obtain annual leave, so we will continue putting up the dates and rough locations of the next few OzSTOC National Rallies a few years in advance.
We tried to avoid clashing with the Ulysses AGM and School Hols for that state....PLUS - location Vs climate for that region etc.
We are sorry if some dates can't suit you, but we have to play to the general rule, not exceptions. In saying that - there is plenty of notice below:
2015 – QLD - 20-21-22 March - Toowoomba
2016 – WA - 11-12-13 March. (Location released at Toowoomba)
2017 - NSW - 20-21-22 October (location released at WA Rally)
You will notice we have moved away from the traditional March rally to give those who have had commitments that prevented their attendance, so October here we come :grin
Start planning your leave guys
Pockey :grin
-
All Good, as long as I`m upright I`ll be there...........need to break this STallion in..................................... :wht11
-
well you old fogies can do this... (I'm way too young for Ulysses ) ...
Hear, hear...me too! :whistle
-
We are also preparing an extensive guide to assist local State coordinators in planning and hosting a National Rally. It is currently in a draft form and will completed soon. I'm keen to get it to the West Aussies ASAP.
-
I was really looking forward to WA, but SWMBO has reminded me that 2016 is her %0th and our 30th Wedding Anniversary and we ARE going to do something special!. For something special read an overseas trip to somewhere exotic. Apparently my suggestion of Perth wasn't exotic enough :grin . Normally this would not be a problem except her birthday is in early March. :||||
Please don't try and move the dates, because the expense of the exotic will preclude any expenditure to get to Perth.
-
I'm just going to follow STroppy to Launceston and WA. That's if I can keep up with him.
-
Just incase you have been on another planet and not viewed the previously posted dates......here are the Rally Dates and States for 2015 / 2016 / 2017.

G'day everyone, there's a spare bed or two at my house for those passing through to the NR in QLD.
I can't attend due study commitments. But riders are welcome in Canberra on their way up.
Just let me know....

Northern QLD is a fairly large area from the coast to the NT border so some of us might have to plan two routes. With the Border ride the week before it maybe to close for some.

Planning is now well under way for NatRally 2018 in North QLD and has been for many months. :wink1
We are now looking to 2019 and beyond and are seeking the assistance of the greater membership.
Using just some of the feedback from previous Rallies the currently running survey in relation to members 2017 NatRally experience we are asking for actual facilities/locations that posses the following qualities that may be potential venues to cater for up to 100-120 OzSTOC members and a future National Rally.
* A Park facility with a significant undercover area with lighting. (Our focal point)
* Rally dinner venue
* Close proximity to a general shop/tavern/pub.
* Variety of Accomodation options. (Cabins, Camp sites, Dorms)
* Small town feel (<5,000 pop.)
Its not an area or town we are looking for ....but actual venues known to you that we can investigate ??
So if you have an idea I would encourage you to do just a little leg work on OzSTOC's behalf and see if it can meet the criteria above and post them below
I look forward to seeing your ideas :-++

Did Rick (Lonerider1) catch up with you for a chat Chris ?
He wanted to speak to someone regarding the possibility of the general Mildura area as a location.I suggested he have a word with you or Tony.

My memories of Mildura in 2013 are of being touched inappropriately when buying a new jacket from the Honda dealer and a very short cab ride. 5 national rallies later and it STill hasn't been washed :grin

I'll put my thinking cap on.

I think there is no rush. The idea is when we are out riding over the next 12 months, if we come across a venue or place that would make a good Nat Rally location, then drop it on a list here so it can be considered for a future event :thumb

I think you'd be lucky to get anything like that outside of Adelaide as far as SA is concerned.

All this talk about Tasmania makes me want to go there for a look about.....
So we should ;-*
SO WE ARE WOW:
National Rally 2019 is set to be in Tasmania in the first half of November 2019 (Exact dates soonish)
This has been in the planning for a couple of months with Diesel looking about the countryside....he is now going to engage his fellow Tasmates to help pull this together for us all.....
To be frank OzSTOC has long resisted having a NatRally in Tassie due to primarily the cost of travel on the Spirt of Tasmania.....but with so much to see on this outstanding Island we can resist no longer.
We envisage rally attendees will make a serious trip of it if their circumstances allow for some flexibility to travel while on the apple isle. We are attempting to have the venue relatively close to Devonport/Launceston regions so members can either start or finish a tour of Tassie from National Rally 2019.
Loads more to follow.... :popcorn

I'll be there in August 2018 for the CMA National Rally (last held at Ulverstone in 2012). Last time we did a clockwise lap over a week. This time we're focusing in the NE corner, so in 2019 I'll be very happy to go again to look around the NW.

I just saw the Tasmania Rally for 2019.
If we start saving now we might be able to make it.

In my diary too! And planning started already.
Probably go the weekend before, and return the weekend after (similar to a couple of other previous trips) and tour around for a three of four days either side of 15 to 17 November.
Now all we need is a location.

Helped build the road into the dam site from the Zeehan end in the late 70s , had more than a couple of beers at the Dog That Bit Ya and with the freedom of hindsight i suspect that is why the road is so windy .

I am waiting impatiently.
Given the intention of this topic was about future notification of rally locations for early planning has a 2020 location been decided on yet?
Given the location of the next and past NatRallies, in reverse chronological order - TAS, QLD, NSW, WA, QLD, VIC and SA (hope I'm correct) - I'd like it to be NT. But as there would be many, many logistical problems with organising and travel with an NT destination, I'm guessing SA (or perhaps VIC), and only these if there's enough volunteers in these parts to do the organising.
-
I didn't mention ACT, but that's part of NSW anyway.
-
I guess it depends on whether the 2020 event will be earlier or later in the year.
You wouldn't want it in winter in the southern states.
Having it in autumn would mean a short turnaround from Tassie.
Spring would be ideal.Adelaide hills anyone ?
-
Victoria had the biggest contingent at the Mackay Meet. They might be in the strongest position to take out the 2020 event.
As per the post below, S.A. is potentially next, but there were only 2 from there at Mackay, so VIC is bumped up the list.

In correct order, for the record:
NSW- Blackheath
S.A.- Middleton
VIC- Ballarat
QLD- Toowoomba
W.A.- Perth
NSW- Wooli
QLD- Mackay
TAS- TBA

I'd like Adelaide Hills because I have a Brother down there, however NT in Winter/Spring would be interesting.

I'd prefer NT to be 2021 because I think I'll be using my A/L on a trip to Japan. SA in 2020 could still be feasible, but I am focused on Tasmania at present.

I just read an article from the Launceston Examiner (30th Aug 2018) sub heading "An eye in the sky from helicopter base", of a new aviation business in the Tamar Valley called Ansett Aviation which is flying Bell 47 (MASH style) helicopters and are doing training and scenic flights.
Run by Reg Ansett's Grandson.
I have no financial interest in this.
Just some info as an option for visitors at/ before/ after next years Rally.

Annual leave booked. :thumbs

Wooli? Save on rally shirts and pins etc.
-
:rofl
But that would be Northern New South Wales. ;-*
-
I only order the quantity of shirts that are payed for plus about 5%-7% to allow for mis-sizing and a few late registrations.
Otherwise the club buys the shirts and never recoups the cost if we have left overs.....I still have over $500 of QLD Rally shirts sitting in the spare room that couldn't be sold.
So if you want to purchase a shirt because you are unable to attend OR wish to purchase a second shirt you WILL need to pay for so its part of the order.
cheers
Chris
Well if similar stocks from Wooli, makes sense to reuse left over shirts
:grin

We considered a couple of years ago naming a consistent NatRally date :think1
But decided as we move around all over Aust the various climates that can evolve on that date would make one rally ideal but the next unbearable hot, cold, wet etc.....
Still I would welcome some feedback or a different view :popcorn
:beer
-
Chris it will always be hard if not impossible to pick a date that suits everyone.
Some dates that affect people appear to be:-
Ulysses AGM
Superbikes at Phillip Island
GP at Phillip Island
Bathurst 1000
CMA
Border Run
Wall to Wall
Black Dog
School Holidays
and even then some would want it close to those dates and others well away from them.
Then there are significant birthdays and anniversaries.
For me most of the rally dates have fitted nicely but this years has taken some working around and not looking too good for next year.
-
What WAG said.
Dates that suit the environment of the local area just makes sense.

Chris,
I agree on your perspective as some of the other guys do. You will never be able to please everyone. Being able to set a date well in advance is the best that can be done, that way people can begin making plans. A huge thank you to you and the team that makes all of this possible. :thumbsup :Blow

That's the suggestion Ben has, I'm not so sure on the safety of that. He would at least need some ventilation :rofl

Should be able to line the topbox with some padding...and drill a couple of ventilation holes... :grin :whistle

I would need to double check about a seat or possibly a fitted harness but from what i understand they need to wear a helmet which i would say he is too small for yet. He's only 18 months not sure his neck muscles would be strong enough let alone trying to get him to wear it. Can't even get him to wear a sunhat ;-*
-
In South Australia a child must be eight years old before they can ride on a motorcycle. I not sure on sidecars.

From what i have read it appears that in most states to be a pillion children must be 8 years old and reach the footpegs.
A child can be any age in a sidecar but must have an approved helmet (so they would need to have strong enough neck muscles) and be seated at all times.
so for our boy he would have to be restrained as he would not sit alone for long and I'm just not sure at what age their neck muscles would be strong enough to withstand a helmet for a period of time. might be worth asking someone.
He'll be in one as soon as he is ready :thumbs

Pretty sure that law is actually Australia wide...bloody stupid law if you ask me... :OldMan
'Twas a case of being seen to be doing something, me thinks...as there were already laws in place that restricted little kids from riding pillion.
Oh, re sidecars, there's no age limit... :thumbs

If you saw the injuries to young pillions we see, you would be appreciating the law saving young ones from their parents Wot thuh 8)
-
Think you missed the point there, Sicman...
Like I said, there were already laws in place...such as having to have both feet on the foot rests.
Young kids were already excluded if they couldn't reach the foot pegs so why the need for an age limit?.
All the age limit did was to restrict kids that had been quite capable of riding pillion one day and then supposedly not after they introduced the new law...
-
No point missed - You can have a tall / large kid who can reach the pegs, but doesn't have the mental ability to comprehend how to be a pillion - i.e. leaning, gripping, hot mufflers
The age was introduced to have a national law to further reduce the chance of injury to all young pillions who can be so easily damaged in an accident 8)

Being picky here but I think the law is the same in each state as against being the one law Australian wide, that would be too sensible, But good that it is the same.

Just looking at WA laws and find that if you do your license on a trike that is all you can ride but do it on a motor bike and you can ride a bike with a sidecar, how stupid the sidecar rule is:-
Trike Motorcycle (R-E class) LAMS approved
Trikes are defined as 'a motor vehicle with 3 wheels, but do not include a 2 wheeled motor vehicle with a sidecar attached to it that is supported by a third wheel'.
A person who completes a practical riding assessment on a trike does not demonstrate sufficient balance skills for the Director General to be satisfied that they can safely ride two wheeled motorcycles.
Accordingly, the R-E or R class granted to these applicants will be restricted with condition code 31 (restricted to ride motor trikes only).
These applicants are subject to the same eligibility criteria as other motorcycle applicants (e.g. they must hold an R-E class for at least two years before applying for an R class).
-

The surprise I had here was I could get a motorcycle licence riding a 250cc scooter with no requirement to use gears but got a licence to ride a 'manual' motocycle. After twevle months I could apply for an open licence (no test) and suddenly ride the kwaka I now have. I was worried I wouldn't be used to the clutch and gears but it wasn't a problem. The only thing I took getting used to was having a foot brake. Whilst I benefitted from it, I still don't think it's right that you can get a manual licence despite being tested in an automatic.
-
There's no logic in many of our laws...
Someone behind a desk is justifying his job by pushing through solutions to problems that don't exist.
The 8 year old pillion one is just one example.
8 years isn't a magic number that somehow makes them capable. Kids are riding bicycles and mini bikes well before that age so they obviously have the mental capacity, it's not rocket science to be able to sit on the back of a motorcycle.
Another example, which was pushed through at the same time as the age limit one was the banning of transporting animals such as dogs etc on the tank of motorcycles. Was there an actual problem??? No...
Then there was the law they tried to introduce that would ban lane filtering/splitting, supposedly because it was so dangerous. It was only that it was worded so badly that it failed to be passed. As we all know now, it's now legal to filter pretty much Australia wide, amazing seeing as it was supposedly so dangerous not too many years back...lol.
Yet another which makes absolutely no sense to me is the requirement (in Queensland) to hold a car licence before you can get a motorcycle licence....cos driving is so similar to riding a bike...lol
Then of course there's the issues that West Aussie Glen & Bodø mentioned... >:()
Perhaps I had better step down from my soapbox now... :whistle :hijacked :grin :Stirpot

It would be interesting to know from maybe some of the medical professionals in this group what age they feel a helmet can be worn by a child safely. I know the skull bones don't fuse together until around 2 years so wouldn't even think about it until after that.
If you have any advice maybe pop me a message.
All my medical training was adult based so i am clueless when it comes to children ;-*

Apart from having strength to wear a helmet, its very difficult to find helmets small enough

Admin / Mods, I suggest a new thread for accomodation sharing. I know we had one for the Oct 2020 Mudgee Nat Rally (probaly early Nat Rallies too), but that got a bit untidy with hi-jacks and banter and (for me) got a bit hard to follow.
-
Accommodation confirmed. I'm still going in october as well.
-
Single Cabin booked, :thumb still thinking about going in October.
:grin :slvr13 :grin
-
We've changed our booking to March.
Regarding previous mention of badges, patches etc for the non-2020 Rally, why bother? It's not happening. It's not like there's such a thing as a "Complete Unbroken Sequence". I'll be satisfied to say I've attended every Rally so far and have a patch for all of them that happened.

Hi all, are there any plans in the pipeline for a 2021 National Rally?

No 2021?? ☹️

Hi all, are there any plans in the pipeline for a 2021 National Rally?
The 2021 Mudgee NatRally was cancelled due to Covid-19 and the surrounding travel and other uncertainties, so I think we will all need to make do with our local RTE's for the rest of this year. I guess we're all waiting to see what 2022 has to offer for a NatRally. :popcorn
-
It's really hard to plan until the vaccine roll out is almost complete.
With the end of March 4 million target missed by 3.5 million, its going to be a long time before anyone can plan with confidence.

We do have six to eight months left in 2021, plenty of time for a National get together. Something can be planned, if it can't go ahead due to COVID (or any other reason), plans can be abandoned (like what happened twice with Mudgee), and some like minded (some may say fool hardy) members can still meet for an RTE.
A get together does not have to have all of the flair (registration, awards, badge, T-shirt, formal dinner, guest speaker, etc ..) normally associated with a NatRally, just a date, a destination and a group booking for dinner at a local pub or club.
If numbers are to be maximsed:
- The destination would need to have as few as possible State Border crossings, the State that fits this is NSW
- Reasonable travel distance / times to suit as many members as possible, Bourke seems to fit
- Plenty of accommodation and eating options, Bourke seems to fit.
Re. T-shirts and badges, these could be ordered (and paid for) by attendees and delivered after the event.
If anyone else is interested, let me know and I'll make a few enquiries.
-
I would be more than interested Sir Michael. Bourke would make a great destination. Royal Enfield club recently held their AGM in Sutton NSW at the Capital Country holiday park which was a great venue too. I would also like to propose Nambucca Heads in October 22-23-24 if anyone’s interested.
Covid will be with us for some time to come and we must learn to live with it, albeit cautiously.
-
This does sound interesting. Michael I did get your PM and replied.

September / Oct I am planning on doing H'way One clockwise with my friend from Victor Harbor and his brother. I may leave my bike at Victor, fly home and then return to do the rally. As such Broken Hill or some where closer to Victor would work nicely for me. Also close to a major airport so Theresa could join us.
-
Nambucca Heads does sound nice. Alas, a change of employment for me in january and no annual leave up my sleeve pretty much rules out interstate travel for me for the year. The thought of applying for cross border permits doesn't help either.
-
Nambucca Heads does sound good I have been past it a few times but have never gone there.

As above for message sent 03 April 2021, 18:30:43.

Received and replied,
I would be interested in a national RTE wherever it is. The date would be critical probably.

I chose the refund.

We will definitely get there one day.

Bodo is the winner here. I don't think the Mudgee Big4 was up to the usual Big4 standards, and whilst I would go back to Mudgee (Mudgee is very vibrant and lots of things to do in and around), I would prefer to stay somewhere better.
The park was just a little 'tired' looking, could do with a spruce up, and it is a little too far out of town for my liking. If it wasn't for Bloodman (Justin and Alison)and Joso proving a taxi service for Nigel, Johnny and me - we woulda been lost.
We will definitely get there one day.
And when you do, you could do worse than looking-up Joso, there isn't anywhere, anyone, anything he doesn't know about Mudgee and surrounds.

Discretion may have been a tactical decision as your 5 ride reports to the same area may have given the game away too soon :spank

My rides and ride reports have nothing to do with this. You're clutching at straws.
