This can be a Lunch and or/a Dinner RTE depending on how far or how much time you have on hand.

Lunch can be the Cafe and dinner could be the Aspley Arms Hotel?

Routes

If you are traveling from Sydney, the quickest and most scenic route to drive to Walcha is up the Newcastle Expressway onto the Pacific Highway via Hexham, Raymond Terrace, Stroud, Gloucester and Barrington. Approximately 16km north of Raymond Terrace on the Pacific Highway, you TURN LEFT on the Bucket’s Way to Gloucester and Stroud. Travel through Gloucester, Stroud and Barrington and approximately 1.5km north of Barrington you TURN RIGHT where the sign says Walcha. Walcha is approximately 142 kms from Barrington. This is the most scenic part of your journey where you cross several rivers and slowly climb up into the New England Ranges with wonderful views of the Giro Valley and mountains as you drive. You eventually get to the Walcha Shire and then begin driving through very picturesque and fertile grazing land where you will see some of the best cattle and sheep grazing country in NSW.

coming from Canberra I will be taking this route, departing home on Friday with an overnight stop along the way arriving in Walcha for the 12.30 Lunch.

If I was coming from Sydney I would go via Putty road and join with your route at Singleton.

I am a non starter for Walcha as I am heading off on holidays on the same date. Walcha is a great spot with some top roads. Enjoy your weekend.  :beer

I will be heading up on the Friday morning, accommodation FriNight to be sourced.

I have visitors from overseas arriving only 4 days earlier. However, I might be able to do another day ride, hopefully without the rain. And this time, I should have the 13  :blu13 on the road, hope she is kind to me.

My plan is to take two days to ride over, with an early start on Thursday morning and an overnight at West Wyalong.  I'll be using this trip to try out my revised camping/touring setup, new tent, and bike packing method for my 2019 OzLap.    Chris wants me to come home via Junee Licorice and Chocolate Factory to collect a few goodies.   :chocolate-box-smiley-emoticon

Dammit!  I reckon I'll be riding with the storm front all the way across.  I was expecting heat, but not 40mm of rain.   :fp    I've waterproofed my gloves and boots again, checked my rain gear for pinholes, and might go and get a Pinlock for my visor tomorrow.

 ride safe Pete, and don't worry if its torrential and you decide to turn back, there will be another ride opportunity to test out your pack etc.
You may be lucky if you leave ahead of the front and keep out pacing it. by that comment I don't mean racing it either..

Bad news people. I will not be able to make it.  :'( . I needed to get school work completed by Friday but now appears that it will take me all the way into Sunday night, if I spend all day Saturday on it also. Hope everyone has a great time and maybe we can catch up in January.

You have done well Pete, its been a very ordinary day here in Adelaide, so much so that when i look out the window at work im not feeling sorry for myself not being on the road. I guess the RDL is now well worn in and getting comfier every hour that passes. I hope the ride home is much more pleasant.

Got in to Walcha at 1645hrs to find out the whole town was in blackout. Dark rumbling skies were threatening as I looked for accommodation (silly me didn't book ahead). By 1715, the skies opened up and dumped a huge amount of rain and hail for about 10-15 minutes, then stopped as quickly as it started.  Got a room at Walcha Motel. Nice and cozy. Now, lets hope power comes back on and maybe I can have tea tonight. Any one else in Walcha tonight?

I got home after a fun ride home leading Allen my way, saw a couple of HWP's and followed at distance a HWP BMW fluoro , Tamworth to Murrurundi where he was doing Radar in the 50 zone..
Allen & i had lunch at Penrith Panthers on the way past, I dont recommend the chicken Pad Tai;..   there was a seriuos accident just after The Oaks

Waved Al off at Picton/Menangle Rd.  my butt is sore,, need more meat on the bone. :butt :spank
Today I achieved 545 k per tank.  a reward for riding responsibly, :law :cop 8)

Yes, it was a most enjoyable RTE despite the weather.  Must have been all the entertaining BS being thrown around.

Good to catch up with all that went to Walcha even if I had to leave the st1100 at home an take the Ute as Wilko was wounded an couldn’t get his helmet on but even so great to see everyone who turned up hope all arrived home safe an sound  :hatwave :wht11 :hatwave
