Title: Mountable camera for motorcycle?
Post by: Streak on October 05, 2011, 07:17:01 AM
So ladies and gents, what is the best, cost effective, user friendly bike mountable camera for the ST and Rider?

I have heard of the go pro hero http://www.motorcycle-superstore.com/Mobile/ItemPage.aspx?DivisionGroupId=2&DivisionId=9&DepartmentId=194&ItemStyleId=25160 (http://www.motorcycle-superstore.com/Mobile/ItemPage.aspx?DivisionGroupId=2&DivisionId=9&DepartmentId=194&ItemStyleId=25160)

What are your thoughts?

Mate posted on this on this on the old site?
Had a GoPro, had another thing and they were both junk compared to what I have now.
Read up on this and you should have the same opinion as me. And mate their cheap, and they work

Mate I'm using the Drift X170. Its not the HD one. Diesels seen it work. You can get one in Australia at this link for $150 delivered. The bloody remote works excellent and is just a gift :thumb

Mate, its mounted using a ram mount base (on my dash) and the ram mount ball and arm system that you have used with your phone. You could mount it on your front brake mount and the remote with the help from some velco on the top of one of the cltch/brake fluid holders

I can vouch for it Streak - Terry has the remote setup for easy on/off use, and it takes photos on the fly or vids and stores pics - it's a wee ripper!

Haven't seen the playback quality yet - but I believe it is quite acceptable. Also - make sure it has around a 170* view angle for the best on board motion footage.

This would be my choice if/when I were in the market for a cam.

Cheers, Diesel

When I had the GoPro, when it was turned on , but not filming the batteries would last at best 2 hours????
The Drift X170 non HD when turned on and not filming last forever, so I just always leave it turned on, and when filming still last heaps and heaps longer than that GoPro piece of junk.
The Drift also takes a 16 Gig card

The HD model runs a 32Gb card, there is also the ability to plug it into a usb socket on the bike to maintain power. Had mine plugged in for 5 days

Yeah the non HD also has the power USB connection but unlike the HD version has no external microphone socket
