Title: Contour...
Post by: Stickerman on December 09, 2012, 08:34:08 PM
I recently go a new video camera for my helmet and it's the best I have ever used. I got it from Myers for $240.  Its wide angle, Full HD, two hour battery life, rotatable lens, laser level, and easy on and off switch. I have posted a video on Youtube because it was too big to upload on this post. Check out the quality at http://youtu.be/Mj9dbYT7bAI (http://youtu.be/Mj9dbYT7bAI)  I added the sound effects so don't think I have a siren on my white st x p  it's a great device. :wht11

Thanks for posting STickerman. I'm staggered at the response from motorists. You never follow anyone for very long. They pull over quickly don't they. A white 1300 is on my Christmas list just for that reaction alone.
Back to the camera. That is very good footage. What is the lense angle? I tried out a mates original Go Pro but wasn't impressed but I believe they are much better now.
Cheers .

Nice quality, but you should keep off those roads, too many Cops.  The reason I dont use mine on the helmet, is that you can see the Speedo, dont want to post incriminating evidence.

The other question I had, was does it come with only 1 mounting bracket, and if so, are multiple mounts available? I would actually like to set up a 'forward and rearward looking' mount on the bike as well as a helmet mount. I would like to be able to 'snap' the camera out of 1 mount and slot it into another just to get some variety of shots to edit.

It's a Contour Roam modle 1600.  1080P  HD.   170o Wide. The quality on the video is not the full quality, I had to reduce it so the file wasn't so big for uploading. The original quality is much better. The sound picked up the wind noise but it picks conversation clearly. The benefits of the white x police bike is great unless your on a single lane, they slow down below the speed limit. As far as the camera picking up the speedo, I don't mind that because I don't speed (much) and I can turn it off easily.
It came with two mounts. One that I used and one that rotates if 365o  I'm sure you could get more mounts from the website.

I have been doing a series of test vids with my Contour Roam HD Cam (thanks Tony - Stickerman) mounted at various points on my ST13 and my helmet.

Here is the first vid with the mount on the middle cowl just below the mirror housing on a tethered suction cup type mount.....

There are 7 different vids in all. Click the "YouTube" logo under the image to watch a larger version of it in YouTube itself.

All my vids are shot in 720p High Def, so you can up the quality setting for a better pic if your download speeds are good.

Here is the next angle - rearwards facing from suction cup mount....

Handlebar Mount looking forwards... (I worked out a better, more stable one than this today - will post when I can...)

And finally.... Suction Cup Mount under mirror, facing rearwards with view of rider...

Hi Sab - a relatively cheap one. It is the R-Jays TSS Tourtech Modular with built-in aviator shade screen.

Good pics there Diesel.  :thumbsup   I wonder if it is a good idea having the camera showing the speedo?  :o

I suppose that that really depends on how fast you're going and where you intend to publish these vids...OK, so maybe not such a good idea Diesel  :grin :grin :grin

Seriously, I liked the look of the helmet mounted version as I think it gives a far more realistic view of what it's like to ride a monSTer, and it's far more stable than the ones you did on the RTE recently.

Just my 5c worth!

Lol - cost me a lot of $$$ to SCAMS Corp to close the deregulated highways and hire stunt drivers for the open test day!

Here are a couple of pics of my cam mount on the middle cowl position.

You can see that it is heavily tethered too....      :thumb

So, now all you have to do is keep up!      :nahnah

I have to say (and give a plug to one of our preferred suppliers), that Paul from Ram Mount - Southern Insight (http://ozstoc.com/index.php?topic=1876.msg17583#msg17583) was very helpful, and lightning quick with his email response, and only too happy to give me the OzSTOC Member discount.

The parcel arrived 1 working day later - well packaged. As you can see, today it sits on my bike. Thanks Paul for making that real easy.     :thumb

Yeah - the more expensive Roams have GPS and bluetooth built in, where you can use your smart phone as a monitor and remote.  just need more $$$$$$.

It's on a 1.4 metre stick.  But where's the stick, and where does it attach?

If you buy one, Diesel, for goodness sake try to stop it swinging all over the bike.  I'm with Brock on this.  After 20 seconds I got the idea, and didn't need 7 minutes!

Diesel's link has now gone bye-byes.

Did anybody notice the duct tape on the top of his helmet?  What an annoying device having that thing swing around your head, pulling on your neck when it swings suddenly half way through a corner.

And I am with you also Brock.

For the record......

Over the 6,859kms I travelled to the National Rally and back...

I took 220Mb of pics  (will tell you the qty soon), and 19.3Gb of 720p HD footage on the Contour Roam - so it will be a fair bit of sorting before I can lay them out in films and ride reports.

I have a 32Gb Micro SD card in the Contour - and trust me, I got a LOT of footage, and I had a 16GB Micr SD Card in the digi cam - so plenty of space left there too.     :thumbsup

Have been using the Helmet mount on the Contour with success, but had some RAM bits in the shed from other projects.....so mounted near the (L) mirror with a S/Steel backing plate to support the ST1300 tupperware with S/S hardware, used the shortest RAM arm so not to exacerbate any vibration.

Seams a winner.....testing will tell, can turn camera to capture forward, rear or rider....easy to reach with the left hand.

Cheers

I was wondering about fitting with a Ram mount. This would be more secure and easy to remove for storage.

Thanks
