Sorry if this has been covered elsewhere - couldn’t find what I was looking for.
I want to permanently mount a dash cam up front somewhere and power it from switched 12V. Where is the best place to grab power from ?
I have a 2014 ST1300PA, almost stock. I know it has some extra switches and wiring. I’ve read chatter about adding a quartet cable but maybe something suitable is already included in the police model.

I've just ordered a quartet cable for my 1300 from the states and it should arrive within the next week; arrived in Sydney yesterday. I need it so I can install a 12 volt power supply. Cost about $33 to my door.

If all the wiring is in tact you might already have what you need with the police version. The online manual on here plus the one I have don't cover 1300 police so no wiring diagram to check it out.

If you just want the power to switch on with the bike I would suggest using a relay with the switched power source being the headlights.
This can be easily acchieved with a "Double Mini Blade Fuse Socket Wire Tap"

They pulg in where the original fuse was and you then pulg two fuses into the top of it, one for headlights and one to activate the relay so power will only flow to the camera when the bike/headlights turn on.

However if you want to use one of the switches on the handlebars for the switched power source instead of using the power from the headlight fuse, I can show you how I use one of the switches (through a relay) to turn on and off the fork mounted lights on my ST1300p.

That Jaycar tap is excellent, Shiney- I didn't know it existed. It certainly makes finding a switched source easy and tidy!
Almost enough to make me rewire my ST with the fuzeblock sitting on my shelf. :-[

There is power , switched and hot available in the large wiring cluster under the back seat

OK - dumb question perhaps, but if I use that Jaycar thingi (very clever) why wouldn't I take 12V that straight off to the camera? Why the need for a relay for a low power device?

I can't see that you would. The references to a relay is purely for high drain items operating off their own fuse and being powered by a very low switching current to the relay from the (e.g.) headlight fuse. You just need to know how much spare current is available on the fuse you choose and look at the camera's requirement. The camera's draw might be similar to the relay's coil!

Well I just unpacked my DOD Hummer motorcycle Dashcam, and boy am I a happy camper. It's presented as a purpose-built motorcycle dashcam, and its not cheap, but so far it sure looks the goods. It includes multiple powering options ... 5V USB, 12V ciggy lighter, 12V off the battery using the fuse block thing that Shiney mentioned (two of them, in fact, for different style fuse blocks), and they are all watertight fittings. For mounting it offers both a 1/4" tripod mount and a GoPro mount, it includes GPS and it does wifi to a smartphone app. There might be a review in the works.
