Title: Alternate use of the Hazard Switch

I'll soon be fitting some spotties, and have been considering how and where to fit the swithc to isolate the spotties from the standard high beam when they're not needed.    Is it possible to disconnect the hazard lights, and use  Hazard Switch on the left switch block for this task.     You need to keep in mind that electrikery is not my strong point, and what I know may be written on a small postage stamp.    Volts, positive and negative, series and parallel circuits are about my limit.   Any advice would be appreciated.

Definitely not recommended Pete, that would be a fiddly job for some one who knows what they are doing. The best idea, is to find a convenient plasce to mount a switch else where.

In addition to Brock's comment, having a factory Hazard light switch that no longer operates your factory fitted and installed hazard lights may present a rego issue ??

If it's an ADR requirement a defect notice might be issued but it's not something they might test in a random vehicle inspection. In SA there's no reg inspections so not an issue.

You can also buy a gang of about three that fit on top of your brake or clutch master cylinder. I thought I had a link to them but can't find. Does someone here have it?

The advice seem to be quite clear, that using the Hazard Switch could be difficult, and would be undesirable.   Thanks for the other tips for switches.

TG and WAG has posted a couple of suggestions.   Where have others mounted their spotlight switches, and is it appropriate to use a waterproof switch?

A waterproof switch is recommended. I have the ploice switch block on my 1100, and used one of those swiches for the job.

Hi Pete.  I wouldn' pretend to know about rules in SA but in Vic if its fitted to the vehicle it should work to be roadworthy.

I have also fitted one of these......fantastic product, easily fitted & puts the switches just where you need them.

Thanks Bazza.  I finished up fitting the isolator switch inside the right side pie warmer.
