Running Engine Power Feed

I have a set of HID globes that I purchased ages ago to install on my old ST1100 but as HID globes don't like power interruptions when starting and when starting the engine the power goes out to the headlights. This means that the lights do not always come back on. I'm still keen to use the HID lights but would like to find a power source that operates only when the engine is running unlike the standard feed to the headlights which comes on when the ignition is switched on.
The only other option is a manual switch but this is not as user friendly as a running engine source as you would need to switch it off and on everytime the engine is started.
Has anyone found a running engine power source?

There is another thread on this some where, I came up with a circuit that disables power feed to the HIDs, while the side stand is down. This means, the bike can be started without the surging to the headlight.

That's a good idea using the side stand, I thought maybe you could tap into the neutral switch but every time you pull up at traffic lights and hit neutral the lights would go off.
I'm currently playing with LED globes but the ones I have are single sided and the low beam is great but the high beam is a bit to spread out due to the placement of the LED emitter. Not sure whether to persist with the LED option or swap back to the HID.

I have tried HID and the globes need to be recessed approx 10mm to fix the focus as a slider moves back and forth between hi and lo beams, i was unable to make it work although I did manage to recess the globe approx 6mm back but still not enough.
The LED's don't give penetration on hi

So at what age does this "old enough to know better" kick in?
I believe in the "hereafter", every time I go to the shed I have to think "what am I here after"

Here is a link, you will find a circuit in there for the sidestand mod for HID install.
