although the bike is coming back together nicely after its paint job and i get the seat back on the 14th with a lambswool cover and all, i am only getting the stiches out of my foot on the 13th, so leaving on the 15th might be a bit too much for me - but ya never know  :)

I wasn't sure if you would be able to make it or not. Just advise us one way or the other on the 14th/15th and we'll leave it at that.

I am sorry to say that I am not able to attend.
My aged mother has confirmed that she will be admitted to hospital for her hip replacement on Sept 14th.
I was hoping for another week.   :fp

Lonerider 1 from Mildura has expressed via PM interest in attending and will confirm over the weekend

Heather and I should be leaving Peterborough aound 10am and should arrive about 2pm

@ Smokeguy (Bob).

Pete, Heather and I are camping at Penrose Park so can meet you there around 3 pm. Might be a shorter run for you going via Mildura. ((might be a record here) riding in 3 states for an RTE))......

Hmmmm.     Three states is certainly tempting, although it's hardly shorter.  It's 512km from home to Silverton going via Gawler and the Barrier Highway, and 713km if I go via Loxton and Mildura.   Either way, I plan on leaving home quite early in the morning.

Any idea what time your leaving or when you expect to be up around Terrowie (20 kms from here)......I don't know where you plan on refuelling but it's about the halfway point for you if not then there's Oodlawirra (?) where the fruit block is and Yunta after that.

Only taking my bike and we're stopping at Yunta (rest stop) and Cockburn (border) which is one of many places I lived in as a railway child.

Got back yesterday from our trip to Silverton over the weekend with Diesel and Growley. Fantastic ride, great weather, great company and the Mad Max 2 museum and surrounding country a real highlight. Silverton pub is expecting you as we told them you will be there this weekend. If i could i would do it again with you guys. Make sure you ask about the 'test' at the pub. Its a bit challenging but after a few practice shots Growley, Steve and myself got it right and got a free beer for our trouble. Watch out for goats between Cockburn and Broken Hill as well as emus, there were a few about last weekend. Oh and if you dont like sausages then you might be a bit hungry for tea on saturday night. Have a great time and safe trip and look forward to catching up with you for a planning session for the March Rally

Yeah - it was great stuff Phil - thanks mate.

To the Members heading out this weekend......

Make sure you tell Adrian at the Mad Max Museum that Diesel sent you and that you are OzSTOC Members.

You may not get a discount (I't's only $7.50 to get in anyway), but you'll be guaranteed a very warm reception and a lot of extra personal attention during your stay.

Adrian is a champ of a bloke and is only to happy to tell you about the Museum artifacts and people.

Also told Steve at the Silverton Pub to keep an eye out for you folks - he should have an OzSTOC card from Diesel there somewhere - he'll remember our little group too - he even gave us FREE BEER!!!        :beer       :runyay

It will take you over an hour to wind your way around the walls that are filled with memorabilia from the various movies and commercials that have been filmed there.

We also rode the 5 kms out to the Mundi Mundi Plains where they filmed these scenes...

Enjoy!

Cheers, Diesel

The ride to Silverton on Saturday was all but ok. It was 9:45am by the time I fuelled up (inc a 10 litre jerry can) and headed off. Peter (StinkyPete) was due for a fuel stop at Terrowie (20kms from Home) at around the same time. There was a chance of meeting at the northern Peterborough turn off of the Barrier Hwy we knew he would be riding a little faster than I was with towing the trailer.

A stop off at Yunta for a rest and about 5 minutes later Pete pulled up behind us. We decided to meet again at Silverton because of our average lower speed though manage to pass a B double in the more hilly section close to home. Another stop off at Olary before an almost non stop run to the BIG W shopping centre. There were a few goats and emus to be seen at various places along the road but within two k's of Cockburn (Border) I spotted an Emu beside the road but missed the two on the road in front of me. Luckily I was only doing about 80kph so I did a quick change to the right lane and hit the anchors and we passed without incident but startled one of the emus.

A quick mention here that we saw about 20/30 bikes heading to the border from Broken Hill. Looked like a group day ride.

We needed to pick up a couple items at the shopping centre and find something for lunch. Woolworths Plus was my fuel stop where the 1100 took 18.84 litres for 278Kms or 14.39K/Litre. We set up camp at Penrose Park after our arrival at 3pm. Pete's bike and tent were there but no Pete but he turned up as we finished getting our tent etc sorted out. A few minutes later Bob (Smokeguy), Rick and Malcom (Lonerider1 & his mate) rocked up. A little while later we rode out to Mundi Mundi Lookout where we arrived just before sunset.

Heather took a picture or two

The Bikes at the lookout

A group some of the local nurses from Broken Hill and Wilcannia

Bikes and us in front of the setting sun

Then it was back to the park and a walk in the dark over to the Hotel for tea. A little later we headed over to Rick and Malcolm's cabin for a chit chat and some had a wine or two.

On Sunday morning a ride to the Hotel for a picture or two.

Mad max VW Beetle

Then up to the cafe where some of us had breakfast

The Mad Max museum beside the cafe

As part of the conversation I made mention of my previous CX500 Turbo and as luck would have there was one parked just down the road from the hotel as we were on our way out. I did point it out to those behind us. The road back to Broken Hill saw what I believe was the local Ulysses club having the regular ride and I did spot one 1100 and three 1300's, a 1500 wing and a few 1800 wings.

Stopping at Olary again on the way back and I noticed the Ulysses sign on the Hotel. All the little towns along here were built to service the steam trains and one or two are no longer there.

We arrived home about 3.00pm. I checked my GPS log and came up with a trip distance of 612kms, average speed 87kph, max speed 129kph ( when passing b-double).

NO!   I've heard about what it involves from my brother who visisted Silverton some time ago with some mates.    They all got legless and one decided to have a go at the test.   Having heard the story, it wasn't for me.

Hi all, Just a quick post to say that the Silverton ride was a very enjoyable ride from Mildura, meeting up with Bob and Malcolm @ Wentworth.
Been a while since I was up at Broken hill, and even longer out to Silverton. The bike went well, first long ride since picking it up from
Swan Hill.  I hope that the suggestion for the next ride is considered, will be a really good ride, ( Naracoorte ) ?.
May have to see if I can organize some camping equipment and try tying it on like Pete had it.  Was good to catch up with other st owners
and get idea's.

I've got the Naracoorte caves page in favourites but haven't looked at it in detail yet?
