back home after being guest of honour at the drillers and knifers society now for my marathon to get myself ride fit again which is going to take a few visits to physio terrorist but hopefully I should be right just as the weather warms up.
-
Here's wishing you a swift and pain free recovery...... Cheers Brian

Am just about to head out the door for a dose of radio therapy. Hang in there Paul, all good things come to those who wait.

I just don't like the idea of waiting till October. :|||| :|||| :||||

Thanks guys I keep telling myself it had to be done but it doesn't make it any easier. Just have to trust the old adage of time heals all wounds only problem is a hospital has more patients than I have.
-
I know what you mean, Paul.. Doc retired me from work in June 2009, and booked me in at the hospital for right knee replacement, said that it would have to be done within 3 years.... I am still waiting... and the knee getting worse after 7 years on the waiting list.
Today is one of those bad days, where I am hobbling around with my walking stick, haven't been outside the door today.
Now, if I was a celebrity, or a football player, or such.... "Oh. Saturday afternoon ok?.. have you back on your feet by Monday..."
Yer, sure...
-
Thanks Kev had first follow up appt with surgeon today he was happy with the way things were progressing and wound my brace up from 60% flex to 90% but still be a couple of months before I'm back at work and probably another couple before I can ride. :cuss :cuss :cuss

Hey Paul, how's the movie watching marathon going?
Should be enough there to keep you occupied for a couple of months :grin
-
Well just got back from my third follow up and I can throw the brace in the bin proves there is a god. Go back late Sept and hopefully get the all clear to ride again. I should get the usb on it's way back to tomorrow as I also have to post the BS form back to the Gumbiment.

With recent events, I'm sure that in "Life's Contract", there's a little clause on the last page that says "Shit will happen" It's how we deal with it that is important and you seem to be doing OK. :thumbs
-
yeah but some soandso in power said life wasn't meant to be easy but I'm trying to cheat and keep it as eassy as possible. :EatCake :EatCake :EatCake.

Include a list of 'wanna watch' with the USB, and I will see what I have in stock for you :thumb

Well the heavy lifting has started with the physio terrorism. Starting to walk better even getting back to sitting on the beaST which is a great feeling but boy does the seat feel wider than I remember it.Hopefully some helmet time is coming in the near future. :dred11 :dred11 :dred11

A couple of short rides yesterday and today the knee isn't quite up to supporting the weight of the beast yet but it'll get there in time with the physio. :dred11 :dred11 :dred11

Took the beaST for a 200 hundred klm round trip to Stuarts Well this morning just to let her know I have'nt disowned her yet the knee went well no uncomfortable pain afterwards and supported the weight of the bike without too much trouble. I'm happy now and the next run will be to Erldunda and back probably next weekend. :dred11 :dred11 :dred11 :dred11

Way to go! Just in time for Summer. 8)
It was 37o out on the slab today. :H
-
Great news, Paul :thumb
-
Hmm,
It was 37 today in the West as well. back to 26 tomorrow I think.
-
Great to see that your knee is coming along fine :thumb
I have a ride mate who was told he will need a knee replacement and he is wondering how long he will be off the bike :fp
But it is only a FJR1300 so I may be able to take it for a spin for him :grin
-
The surgeon told me 12 months from date of surgery the secreet is to get stuck into physio as early as possible before surgery so everything strengthens up beforehand that way it makes physio easier after surgery. :dred11 :dred11

Just got home from appointment with surgeon and he has cleared me to return to work but still won't let me ride. But at least getting back to work is a start. :runyay :runyay :runyay

Great news mate! :thumb

Thats good :thumb

IMHO it's the scarity of surgeons where you live that prevents you from finding one who'll clear you to ride but not for work.
I hope you'll be back on the bike in no time. It's too hot to ride now in any case. :H

Update on marathon. day b4 Good Friday was diagnosed with non reducible hernia then yesterday have orthopaedic appointment and find out that while everything is good with my knee I now have severe arthritis in my hip ie bone on bone so more surgeries to put me out of action when the voices in my head tell me to put up or shut up so looks like a long stretch of riideless days for me.
-
All the best, Paul. I know the feeling. Doc has put the kybosh on me riding anytime in the near future as well.
-
I'm thinking of you Paul. Apart from not being able to ride are you still able to get out and about?
And what are you doing about that 4-letter word, 'work'?
-
Yeah still getting out. Went back to work in January for 3 weeks but the pain was that bad at least after yesterday I know why now so work's off the menu again but at least the insurance are still paying my loss of earnings. I'm going to try and force myself to one ride at the end of May to the Yongala RTE but not planning yet but I need to blow the cobwebs out b4 I decide on surgery.
-
Wishing you all the very best Paul and hoping you are able to jump on your STeed soon :hatwave
-
Hope you can make it to the RTE Paul. It will be good for you.

Latest update I go under the knife again within the next 3 months for total hip replacement.I'm currently debating whether to sell the beast as she hasn't had a real ride for the last 12 months and it 'll probably be another 12 months now until she gets used for what she's meant to do. :dred11 :dred11 :dred11

-
Aw shite Paul, wishing you all the very best, buddy.
-
Thanks Kev. Hopefully won't be off a bike too long just rethinking my riding style by going back to a cruiser but that's in the thought bank at the moment. Get the hip out the way first.

My wife had a hip replacement (RHS) and was back on the ST13 in less than a year as a pillion.
-
Thanks for that info. I'm trying to keep an open mind that everything'll work but have a couple of plan B's just in case.

-
All the best mate, keep us updated and don't stop thinking positively :thumbsup
-
NTR - Its amazing how quickly people recover from a hip operation these days :thumb Just do what the Doc's say and you will be up and around real soon with ease :-)
-
At the time we lived in a two storey house with 14 steps. Before she left hospital, my wife was required to do workouts on the stairs. For the first couple of days she had me beside her for confidence, but was soon sprinting up and down by herself.
So I'd recommend adding stairs to your physio regime.
-
woohoo not got my invitation for my second slicers and dicers ball in 14months. first it was replacement of acl ligament in my left knee and on the 24/8/17 I go in for my total hip replacement on the same leg not looking forward to it as I just want to ride which I haven't done since 29/6/16. :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :dred11 :dred11

Wishing you a fast and full recovery, Paul.
Sing out if there's anything you need.

Thanks for upbeat encouragement bobster. Glad to hear your bypass went well.
As I'm a Chicken where needles are concerned I'm not looking forward to surgery but I'm looking forward to less pain and being able to do stuff again once it's done.
-
Latest update at least the slicers and dicers ball is over and now I just wait and pray that they kick me out of here tomorrow or thursday.

Fast recovery, Paul :thumb

Had my 6 week checkup with the awfulpod yesterday along with xrays was real weird to see this nice shiny white area that is my new hip. Anyway everything is exactly in place and perfectly lined up and I'm now allowed to sleep on my side albeit with a pillow between my legs. No more sleepless nights :rockon :rockon :rockon

-
Definitely Pete. I know it'll probably be well after Christmas but that's me being positive and when it happens I could be down your way nothing like a short ride to blow the cobwebs out of both me and the bike.

Had aother appointment with orthopod today left hip doing well with the other fantastic news being that I have another date at the slicers and dicers ball in about 3 months. I'm getting sick of all these invitations I just want to get on the road again. :'( :'( :'( :'(

Hang in there Paul...
-
The only thing wort hanging in there for at least I'll have more metal in me than the bionic man then I can take on Kev's mate Chuck Norris. Speaking of Kev is he sleeping on the job again.
-
Well it's that time again slicers and dicers ball #3 this time for total right hip replacement on 18/8/18.
-
Thinking of you Paul, all the best, mate.
-
Just make sure you keep them drugs and rock and roll up cos I have a feeling I'm going to need plenty of the former but they don't give you the right ones in horsetipal so I'll be relying on you to keep me stocked up.
-
Missus Biggles had hers done about 5 years ago and can highly recommend it. She didn't have bad pain, so I reckon you'll pull through with needing anything too exotic. Just get straight into the physio. We lived in a 2 storey house and they wouldn't let her go home until she could walk up and down the hospital fire stairs. She was doing a few day 2, home in less than a week.
-
All the best Paul. The physio is the best stufff
-
Well I'm home after my third date with the slicers and dicers so now I have my new right hip ready to give Chuck Norris a kicking.
Still a bit sore and tender but that's to be expected.
-
All the best, Paul. Shall we pencil you in on the team for this weekends footy? :thumb
-
Only if Chuck Norris is onthe opposing team. ;-* ;-*
