Mick's-on-the-Loose Ride
« on: December 19, 2013, 07:53:14 PM »
Mrs W's in NZ for a few days from Thursday 2 January, I drop her off at the airport around 10:00am, kids can look after the house, and then "Mick's on the loose" .....

Anyone interested in a mainly sealed road ride, leaving 10:35am on the Thursday (earlier if I can get home from the airport quicker). Thinking of heading east and then north, having a play in the Alpine Region for four days and three nights, getting home Sunday night, may be Monday.

Some roads and localities of interest are:

Great Alpine Road
Imlay Road
Bruthen (Bullant Brewery)
Tathra
Brown Mountain
Bombala

Won't be too hard to plot a route linking these.

Prefer to stay in pubs - depends what's available, will take tent and sleeping bag just in case.

Couple of friends from Austouring and Open Road Tourers are coming.

Let me know if you are interested.
Cheers,  Williamson (AKA Michael)

For the modern man who lives in the city, riding a bike might be one of the only ways to escape the humdrum monotony. To take off and ride. To be both at one with nature and one with the bike. To feel masculine. Adam Piggott

I will aim for 10am at Bombala for the momnet, but may do Tathra as well.  I know someone in Bombala that I have not actually met yet (he rides a Triumph) so he may be interested in meeting up, and as a local would know all the good stuff.

I will aim for 10am at Bombala ....
That'll be Saturday morning.

Meeting Tim, Rog and few other from Open Road Tourers at Bakery at 10:00am as well.
a local would know all the good stuff.
From memory, that would be any road north, south, east ('specially east) or west of Bombala.

We'll be heading north west and ending up somewhere around Walwa.  I seem to remember someone (Saaz?)suggesting the Walwa pub was pretty good.

Will be off-line for a few days at New Years (Rally) Gathering at Micalong Creek and return Wednesday evening, will check thread before I head off on this jaunt Thursday morning.   Any others interested would be best sending a PM with mobile no.

Walwa pub is definitely good, as are all the roads in and out.  Just mention that we are still interested as a group turning up sometime, just to keep in the good books.  Dederang is also great if you seem to get that far.

As for local roads, all the ones around Candelo are quite good.
