Sunday was planned as S&M day @ Leumeah as poSTed laST week. Abe arrived at 9 am ish. we are going to change my timing belt and check the valve shims and replace if needed.
I'd already prepared Stranger on sat, once again removed all the plaSTic STripping STranger naked again.
removed the front wheel and mudguard, drained his radiator and removed it.
1ST thing coffee... Dave then removed rocker covers and the timing belt cover on the left and we inspected the belt.
wow..
didnt expect it to lQQk like that... it almoST lQQks brand new.. I wound the motor over by hand and checked the entire length, it lQQks just like the new one I brought laST week, its pliable and even has the criss cross pattern on the tooth side, all teeth STill rounded and it sits very snug in the teeth on the sprocket.and remarkably clean free of dust. I had been told the belt had been changed after it left service, and I didnt think it had, Uno a sales pitch... if it had been changed b4 STranger became mine it would be due again at 180,000 so I decided to leave it another 30k,
juST about now Ian aka single arrived on his metallic green ST1100, for the S&M. I had spoken with Ian during the week and he mentioned he wanted to sinc his carby's , so I
Dave to ask him to bring his vacuum checking thingymajig.
Dave explained to me whilST he checked my valve shims, and we recorded the data for future reference. both intake and exhaust shims on all for cylinders were within spec
so no need to do any of them ATM and I have a benchmark for when they get checked at 180k when we finally change the timing belt.
we then cleaned the rocker covers and Dave using his orange stuff to seal the half moons put the covers back on. time for coffee.
I had taken some pics, or so I thought but they are missing on my phone.
photobucket is backing up pics 12 times on some photo's and seems to delete others? WTF..
Next Ian moved his STeed up and we removed the tank cowl and air filter box to do the carby sinc.
Under Dave's guidance I placed the vacuum gauge on 4th cyl to see what the preset reading was, juST under 4 on the dial so then I went round the other 3 carbies and adjuSTed them to 4, a few twiSTs on the throttle and re checked them all.
.
coffee time and chat more about upcoming RTE's as Ian will be off his STeed for a few weeks after his eye operations.
and Biggles I get to clean more of the front end of STranger before dressing him up in all his plaSTics again
