Title: NSW/ACT RTE 29th July Tarana Hotel
Post by: saaz on July 03, 2012, 04:16:32 PM
I think its about time to get another RTE going, as we would be the first as well  :thumbs

So here we go

NSW/ACT RTE 29th July Tarana Hotel

Tarana hotel seems a good location as they are able to easily handle a group, and we can pick an area to stake as our own.  Good roads around there so no excuse for not taking an interesting route there.

Hi John,
Thanks for going though the trouble of looking at another RTE. Your suggestion sounds great and I'd be in it.

Hi John, July 29 at the Tarana pub sounds good to me providing the weather is reasonable. Please advise of any changes.

I could mention that the majority will be from the ACT and all on P model 1100s.  If anyone else wants to leave a decision to the day feel free to come.  I am off on the Border Run after this (well after 2 days up the Sebel at the Hawkesbury) so I will be scarce for a week or so.

Do you want to laugh a bit?

So this morning I woke up and I realized what a beautiful day it was to ride. So I remembered that there was a ride for lunch at Tamara Hotel. So I geared up and off I went... to realized when I got to Tanara Hotel at 1:20 pm this afternoon that no one was there. I was all alone in a very cold day. I checked my phone and I realized that I was one day ahead from the planned trip. I can not compliant much because it was a wonderful ride and I went and go back the 325 kms with only three quarters of a tank.

I must advice you guys that are going tomorrow, that it gets very cold as soon as you past Blackheath, and the winter has left a few big holes on the road, so be extra careful... other than that, you should be fine.

Just for fun, ask the blonde girl attending the bar if she remembers that guy looking for a bikers group on Saturday. She was very nice and good looking :) Please tell her that I said 'hi'... :thumbs

This girl is very good looking and she works only Saturdays and Sundays... I actually met her dad too who happened to be eating lunch there... He told me the story about the name of the town and a few other things about the area.

Please count me in and Photoshop my picture hahaha

I won't make it again tomorrow... because I need to go to church to pay for my sins for this last couple of weeks :) Plus my right hand is bothering me a bit.

Guys,

Huge apology as I just realised that there is no way I can make it tomorrow. As a school teacher I am currently marking some history papers that have to be finalised by tomorrow night. I will be burning the midnight oil tonight and all day tomorrow to achieve that. I haven't touched the ST in two weeks now and was really hanging out for the ride.

Hope you all have a wonderful ride.

Unfortunately I was not able to make it either, but I only found out 40kms from home. The bike started to run like it was running out of petrol, so I bailed and went home to investigate. Looks like the fuel filter was a bit clogged with varnish or similar rubbish, and the restriction was getting worse sometimes but not others..I hate these problems that arn't consistent!  I tested the fuel pump flow with and without the filter connected last time I had a similar problem after some dodgy fuel, the test with filter connected was well within specifications.  This time when I took the filter off it was barely flowing.  Most likely when I conditioned the fuel and put cleaner through it got rid of junk from the pump (varnish does build up on the fuel pump over time, leading to its failure) and the tank, but the filter did its job and clogged up filtering the petrol. I opened up the filter to check, and the paper filter inside is quite discoloured.

Tested the bike for while and all seems well again.  Coming Thursday off to the Border run so it had better be...

Hope that's sorted John, wouldn't want that to happen west of Ceduna goin' to the Border.

It concentrates the mind alright!  I am kicking myself that I did not just replace the filter after my last troubles and after using some fuel cleaner that would have let loose the varnish and whatever else was in the fuel system.  I just looked up some cases of the same problem, and it does not seem uncommon.  At least I know the cleaner worked!  I am going to replace the filter when I get back as well, just in case.

Well the Steed was polished up and left town fueled up at 0750 with the wife on the back. It was a brisk 9 degrees. We headed along the Newell Hwy and turned off at Marsden and revved it up thru the twisties thru Grenfell before stopping at the Rose Cafe at Cowra for a hot coffee and warm muffins. As we headed towards Bathurst the cloud came back and it hit 6 degrees. How I love heated grips on days like this, although I need to get toe warmers or double sock.
We turned off at Bathurst and took the O'Connell rd before turning off onto the Tarana rd for 30kms of the best turning tight twisties with eight crossings, via bridges, of the rail line with the road being not much wider than the bike in places. That section was a workout on its own. Upon arrival at 1210pm John from Orange was there with his St1100 blue three wheeler.
We ordered lunch and were eventually joined by Terry from Canberra and Steve from Penrith. Saaz didnt arrive after making some excuse about crook fuel. We reckon he scuttled back home to spend time with his dearest to make up for being away soon on the border run  :butt :crackup :rofl

My wife Jeanette enjoying warming up in the sun out of the lazy wind
(http://i601.photobucket.com/albums/tt91/ajudd1/IMAG1158.jpg)
Lunch was great as usual. There was a Jag car club and numerous other riders there mixing it with the locals.
We left just after 2pm and made our way back thru O'Connell towards Bathurst. The ride home was mainly at about 8-9 degrees. We made sure we got another cappucino and more hot muffins to test the quality at Cowra. Yep they were still good. The twisties heading back home seemed even better as I got into that sweet spot only an ST rider knows  :thumbsup
We got home at 1820 and hit a hot bath to warm them cold bones. 900kms of great riding is a nice way to spend a day with the Mrs. The STeed flew like an Angel. She needs a bath too  :)
Cheers
Tony

Great report Tony (well mostly!). Sorry I missed going but I least I managed to do my Border Run shakedown, but not as I envisaged it   :cuss.  Have to do a few more in the warmer weather as the winter months around here are not conducive to involving everyone.

We were sorry to hear you had troubles John. It would have been good to see you there. Yes it was good you found the trouble after 40kms rather than 400kms from home  :thumb I agree just a couple of degrees warmer would be nice. I reckon its the first time I have ever been to a pub where I didnt want an ice cold ale :eek

My apologies for not attending on Sunday. I'd been helping daughter move a big bed out of her house, and strained a groin muscle doing so, which left me pretty sore. Of course I didn't tell her that was the reason we didn't go, but will hopefully be in better shape next time 'round. :(
