tyre advice needed

just had a look at my fromt tyre. kts almost down to indicators but just in middle.  has flat spot too. its a bridgestone.   the rear has a pirelli gt angel.  is it worth getting a match for the rear  or will another brand be as good or better

Very rarely do I have F and R tyres with the same brand on as both tyres don't wear at the same rate.

At the moment I have a PR4 up front and Dunlop Road Smart three up back. When the front needs doing I'll go with the Dunlop.

If the rear is only a little worn go for the match up

For me, it would depend on how many km left on the rear.  I wouldn't be trying to match if the rear has (say) only 5,000km to go.

I prefer to have matching front and rear, but it doesn't always work out that way.  At the moment I have a Dunlop on the rear and a Michelin on the front.

I like to push the ST1300 through the twisties, I suspect with a matching pair, the bike limits would be higher, much higher than my limits.

Given front and back have such a different tread pattern and a different job I can't think of any reason for having the same brand back and front.

Really depends on how you ride. I usually get my tyres from Tyres for Bikes in Victoria Park. A few of us use them so saying you are with OzSTOC may help a little with the price.
Suggest you have a chat to them or to who you use for tyres telling them what you how ride and what you are looking for.

Tyres for Bikes are good, and they do lube the splines. They do give a discount for OzSTOC and Ulysses.

I prefer matched brands on my bike (PR4 at the moment), after all the tyre engineers go to a lot of trouble to get the bike to handle properly

I'll go one step further, same F and R, same series of same brand. Each series will have, all be it subtle, differences in design particularly wet road performance. On average, I replace 2 rear for each front. When changing both F and R, consideration is given to what is available. It seems that the range of high load rating tyres for the ST has broadened judging by all the GT models (72W) available now. For me any would do the job, I just stay with what I am used to running, PR4's GT.

I run PR4's front and rear and have never had an issue in any weather condition. Mind you i ride it like an ST1300 not like a GSXR lol.
