Whatever tire is preferred, only use standard tyres on ABS models as non standard sizes can upset the ABS

I've had dealers fit 160/60 (OEM 160/70) rears to my 1100A without issue: not that I would have chosen that size myself. I find the 1300 OEM 170/60 size a better option as I can get the GT spec tyres. The last two sets haven't given cause for concern with the ABS or the traction control.

Angel gts are as good as the pr2s and 3s in all respects, just be sure to get the A spec versions for the st1300 to handle the weight. I am trying the pr4s next set

I just went from French to Italian tyres. Hope this Saaz bloke knows a thing or two about motorbikes...

I've just got Metzler Z8 tyres fitted to my .ST1300, then managed to pick up a 50mm coach bolt in the rear tyre after 400 KS, all plugged up now and going well. An English mag I was reading recently mentioned during a test on a 1200rt BMW that the pirelli gt does not give assurance at higher touring speeds that the metzlers do.in fairness the speeds were not specified.

depends on what mag you read
"The Angel GT is targeted at naked-bike, sport-touring, sportbike and touring riders who want multi-season traction and durability. Hence, bikes such as a Kawasaki Versys, Yamaha YZF-R1 and BMW R1200RT greeted us at Porsche’s Nardò Technical Centre, whose 3.8-mile road course provided fast sweeping corners, hairpins, undulating pavement, esses and even a 170-mph straight. We tried the new Pirelli Angel GT on five different motorcycles, and found it provided uniformly excellent feel, and a high degree of confidence and stability. The testing proved it’s a racetrack-capable sport-touring tire that also appears well suited for the road."

I have only been up to 195kph on the GTs, but they feel fine at all the speeds I have done. The higher speed was in the NT legally. The PR3 perhaps felt a bit lighter, but this is being picky.

fitted dunlop roadsmart some 6k ago seem OK
I have a gravel drive
the dunlops have a wider tread groove than the P3's
result more gravel in the shed, just something i noticed , with bare feet.

Unless you're Marc Márquez on a raceday, you shouldn't have any trouble with the Exedra Max Radials.

The bloke at Tyres For Bikes in Perth http://www.tyresforbikes.com.au/index.html recommended them as the toughest and longest wearing tyre for the ST1300s. My last front had about 15,000kms on it from riding around Australia and wear was hardly noticeable. As the ST was two up and towing a 150+kg trailer, the rear as copping a flogging and was changed in Perth. It had about 10,000kms on it and another few left in it, before the bike was taken out by the gate. Winding wet roads, such as the Great Ocean Road, were no trouble at all (so long as you stay off the green mossy parts at the western end!)

My new ST1300 has PR3 tyres and I rode it town on Tuesday and then about 10kms to meet with Scarlet Thunderbolt for smoko.  :thumb
These tyres don't feel any better than the Exedra Max tyres did, in the dry.
It's very hard for a smooth "pilot" to out ride the grip of any of the top grade tyres on an ST1300, so it probably doesn't matter whether you get Metzeler Z8, Pirelli Angel GT, Michelin PR4, Bridgestone Exedra Max or T30 GT Radials etc. They all offer good grip and their wear rates are very much dependent on your riding styles and conditions.

When I first needed to change tyres on my 1100 and it was suggest I put on the old Dunlop D205. About 15,000km on the rear and at least 18,000 on the front. Can't hurt to have a look at them before I order from the US.
