Hi Steveo,
the plastic is ABS plastic. Most plastic from modern autos is ABS. I am in the process of repairing my fairings by using a plastic stone guard from a wrecked auto. I went to a local smash repair place and asked him for some plastic. You will instantly know if it is ABS plastic as the two plastics when melted will flow together. I use a soldering iron to repair my plastic and use the auto parts to reinforce the joint. Has worked well for me. Put a blinker cover unit together broken into four pieces, now good as new. You will need a little practice welding the plastic before atempting the actual repairs. Take your time and work the soldering iron to maintain a molten pool to almost full thickness of the plastic your working with. Good luck.
