tuning after sitting in shed for six months

As i have previously mentioned i have just puchased a 95 st1100 that has been sitting in a shed for at least 6 months.So would it be advised that i drain the fuel that is still in the tank and refill with fresh fuel and and run some aditive if so how much, and what aditive per tank then once i go for a decent ride maybe balance carbs???? Now for the question everyone shivers when they ask as normally opens a can of worms What is the best type of engine oil to run sorry to ask but would love to know Regards Paul.....

How much fuel is in there. I think Nulon do a fuel additive, just read the instructions and double it. Then fill up and do it again. If you are up to it, pull and check the plugs first, take a pic first do the running flush, then check and compare the plugs.

as a non ST rider  i would suggest getting it a full service  from a reputable mechanic  and for the fuel ride till empty  fill tank with 95 PULP.

I run 95 octane as this gives the best performance/cost per Km (500km+ per tank). I use Castrol 4T from Repco ($33.00 for 4lt) and Repco RF 135 filter ($7.00) and have found the 4T to be cleaning the sludge out of the engine very nicely. I did the first three changes at 5,000km each, with the oil black, and now have gone to 10,000km before the same discolouration occours. Have used the Nulon additive with good results.

There is no real need for running 95 Octane, just costs more. I have the spread sheets to prove it. I had the same usage for distance no matter what grade of fuel, and no noticeable performance benefits.

Hear hear!!  This furphy has been beaten to death more times than "what's the best oil?".
People pay more attention to the advertising about the expensive fuels than the science about pre-ignition.

Well that maybe Brock, but mine does 'ping' a little on the lower grade fuel. It feels to run smoother (this may be subjective to weather/ moods etc), but I do go further on a tankfull of the 95. 98 makes no difference compared to 95.
