Post by: Brock on June 04, 2012, 12:04:20 PM
Any one interested in a maintenance day???

To be held at Dave Ropers residence.

Learn how to do your own oil change/filter change if you dont already know, wash the bike, tidy up those messy electrical connections, Fit the Anderson plug jumper lead farkle, Think up your own idea.

Perhaps have a sausage sizzle and coffee, chin wag and a world record "Most Ozstoc Shirts at a Maintenace day" Photo

Now that is a great idea I would be in for that. Not only would it be an opportunity for to meet up with you all, the chance to learn some more about the ST is too good to pass up.
And it also means that I get to go for a  little holiday and a nice long ride as well,
So many nice things to look forward too.
I think that I had better go and have a little lie down.
Please keep us all posted .

 Cheers

OK. I use it to do the 6 carbs on the Valk.
Haven't done an ST, but as long as we have a manual we should be right.  :whistle

It will be good to have. I want to wire up my lights using the existing police switches? As long as the date suits. >:()

Post by: Brock on June 04, 2012, 09:06:31 PM
That will require some pre thought Johno, and the wiring diagrams (which are available) just ket me know what switch you waqnt to use and I will see how hard it will be.

I am not sure but when I see your bike I should be able to follow your setup.

My lights are hot wired to high beam at the moment, I havent got around to wiring in a switch, Its switch ready but.

There is a headlight plug available at Repco that makes the wiring pretty easy ( I dont like splicing into wires if I dont have to)

Disregard the Haynes manual approach of try to match the right side carbs first, then match the pair to the left hand side carbs.  In actual fact the left rear carb is the base carb you cannot change, and all the other 3 are independently adjusted to it.  Carbtune makes it a cinch.  A torch, long enough flat head screwdriver (I find a philips head one pushes on the adjusting screw too much) and it will all be done (well, after some bodywork is removed but leave that until you check that any adjustment is needed!)

Brock,

As you know, I'm semi-retired at the moment so any time/date will suit me (apart from Mondays and Tuesdays, which I don't really think anyone was contemplating anyway). :p

I have NO IDEA how to start a poll so I'll leave it to you Brock (seeing as you appear to know how to manipulate things [ONENUT] on here). :well

Seeing as space is limited at my place, I'm looking round to see if someone central can offer something better............ I'll keep you posted. :think1

Call me what you wish, I've got broad shoulders. :butt

While you're all picking on me you're leaving some other poor bugger alone. :nahnah

On the subject of names; I know we have them on our shirts but I was wondering if anyone has considered having name patches for our jackets?

I'm asking because when WA had its last RTE, the weather was a bit chilly and, I think, all of us kept our jackets on and seeing as there were a couple of new faces there, it got a bit confusing at times (for me anyway). :think1

In the Blue Knights, we have had name patches made up which are sewn onto our vests. They only cost something like $10. I'm sure they could be done in any colours required.

What are your thoughts on it?

Dave ( ONENUT, NUT, ONE, ITCHY, EUNOCH, whatever)            :wht13

Yes the patches can be made, the girls in my Embriodry room create them from time to time, I will see how much work goes into making thm and cost.

Hi everyone, and ex copper (bob), this is starting to sound like a plan,
At the moment I am open to any and all suggestions , but I will need some info and feedback as I dont know either the proposed timing and or the venue.
Because of the distances involved for me I would probably give the trailer its maden run, (that is of course not counting its initial excursion around the block), and then it could turn into at least a couple of nights lay over so I would need someplace to doss down.
So I am open to any and all suggestions.
Cheers to all.

Hi Brock, Im sorry but I forgot to add that I will be self contained as I have the necessary camping gear and I will only need somewhere ,possibly in someones back yard to drop the swag, and park the bike up off the roadway.

Wow!... I've been so busy over the last few months with a job change that I haven't visited OzSToc for ages... and missed an RTE or two (I think). I have been very seriously contemplating the national rally in SA next year, but figured I need to learn more about my ride before I tackle such a biggie.

So, I ordered some filters today and thought... what liquid do I put in it? Of course, OzSToc came to mind quickly and I found this thread... lucky I guess.

Definintely count me in.... starting from the "how do I get all of this plastic off".

Winston , as far as camping in the backyard is concerned - I'm afraid I can't offer mine as my two (relatively untrained) German Shepherds would tear you a new one, just after the tent.

See you all at Dave's soon!

RIGHT:

I've been moved to Wembley Police Station and NO I'm not back on the bikes :cuss :cuss

I'm stuck in the office clearing up the 'cock-ups' (Not mine). It's a Monday to Friday, 0700 to 1500, job.

Anyway:

I've managed to find a place where we can have our Maintenance Day. :hatwave
It's in an undercover car-park right next to the Police Union Office, 639, Murray Street, West Perth. :law

They've given us the go-ahead to use it any Sunday. All they require is the date we want to use it. :think1

Brock, can you set up a Poll to see what Sunday is the most popular please? Once we come up with the date I can let them know and we'll be up and running.

That's all from me for now....................Brock, get to it !

Says I was realy looking forward to meeting all of you nice folk, but, unfortunatly I can not make it to Perth this time.
Unfortunatly I have some other pressing arrangments, which have locked me out this time.
However as far as the 20 Th October goes my place here at Northampton is still and will be an open house for anyone one who cares to drop in that weekend.
I anticipate going to Kalbarri myself that weekend in order to join in on the fun.
But my place in Northampton has camping facilities, bbq, fridge , and a seperate ablution block and patio etc. available if anyone one wants to use it,at their convenience.
Cheers to all.

Right, :runyay :runyay :runyay :runyay

SEPTEMBER 9th

The place we are holding the Maintenance Day at is in the undercover car park of a company called Pascoe Partners CPA's, right next door to the WA Police Union offices :cop which is at 639 Murray St, West Perth, so it's either 637 or 641 Murray Street. I think 9:00 am is as good a time as any.

For those who are not familiar with Perth, Murray Street is a 'One Way' street (West to East), therefore it's the building BEFORE the Police Union. It is about 100 metres after (East) of Havlock Street on the RIGHT.

I am trying to get in touch with Malcolm for him to bring his trailer and on the way, call in at my place so I can get him to take my generator and some extension leads there. That way we'll have power without stealing it from the owners :-(((, who have gone out of their way to allow us to use the property.

I'll bring a kettle, coffee, milk and sugar ( BRING YOUR OWN CUPS  :thumb). 'Scarp' says he can bring a BBQ (Yes please Scarp) so I suggest that we bring our own BBQ packs etc and we should be right. :hatwave

IF YOUR BIKE'S LEAKING OIL, OR ANYTHING ELSE, PLEASE DON'T PARK ON THE CONCRETE UNTIL IT'S SORTED as I promised the owners that we'd leave NO MESS behind.

I suggested to Brock that we should organise a "Certificate of Appreciation" to give to any companies, organisations or any other body who assists us when undertaking such things (I think Coromal Caravans should be the first recipient after providing the BBQ on the New Norcia ride).

So ok STers, let's make this worth the effort and everyone ride safe.

If anyone gets lost or doesn't know where the premises are, give me a ring on 0419 166 355

ANY SUGGESTIONS FOR TIME, EQUIPMENT ETC, PLEASE SPEAK UP NOW SO THE DAY CAN GO OFF WITHOUT TOO MANY PROBLEMS.

Dave

I've never been to a maintenance day but I imagine that those who wish to change oil need to bring empty containers to carry the old stuff home so it can be disposed of properly. I can see me loading the bike with oil/fluids, filters, torque wrenches & other tools, towels, tarps, and a few empty plastic milk bottles.

Do you have any suggestions for other "stuff" (other than good cheers and a wallet stuffed with $$)?

I know the feeling, I went in to work a month ago to demand I get time off to go to the Rally in March, (Caravan Show is on & no leave is granted then)
My boss resigned the same day, so I was promoted to Service manager & now have no hope of getting time off in March  >:(

As I've said before Noel, we can kidnap you for at least two weeks.
We could tie you to the top of a trailer, or if you misbehave, put you into it, under the equipment. Gagged of course. :whistle

Dave

Brock its ok i found the time  :thumb

Great day guys. Thanks to ewes all. Without ewes the day wouldn't have happened.
Thanks also to the Asian Correspondent for doing the side stand mod.
Thanks to Noel for the food and drink.

The headlight mod would work for normal headlights as well, if you wanted to have your headlights switched.

many thanks to all and a nice catchup..... "Poppy Dave" & I helped each other out with a clutch fluid flush (Dave's looked like he could empty the reservoir with a fork  >:() ). Mine road well for the 30kms on the freeway home, then winding through the burbs to home it was like I'd pulled the clutch lever in half way..... another bleed upon arrival. Now she's a beaut. All part of the learnin'.

Not surprisingly, my clutch has never felt better.

All I can say it that the person or persons who did mine at the 18,000 service obviously have no idea what a clutch cylinder looks like.

Glad to hear that the day was well received.

For the next one, I suggest that it be at some ones house. This would be to do a specific task on that persons bike, eg oil change, brake bleed or the like. The idea would be to show how to do the task to some one who doesnt normally touch the mechanical stuff on their bike.

Ancilliary tasks likje the Jumper lead fitting or HID switch off mods could be done as well.

OK guys, go for it.
