I wish I could put up with reduced coverage. I have had an absolutely litany of problems with Telstra over the years. I cannot stand the company. If they worked in a truly competitive environment they would be broke in a month.

They might be ok in the city but they are terrible in the country.

Said that for years........They need a good scare to bring them selves back into the market....I have been with Optus for about 15years now probably more in fact. Thats landline cable internet and 2 mobiles, wife and daughter. Only issue I have with Optus is poor coverage in our house which is strange as there is a mobile tower about 2 k,s away. So to break ranks, I have had a prepaid Telstra account for about 2 years now and have found that the coverage on average is much better. Notice it mainly when out and about and when SWMBO says, "can I have your phone dear as I have no coverage"........ Bold statement, but if Optus shared Telstra`s infrastructure, they would kill them in the market place.......Food for thought.. :EatCake...... :wht11

I won't go with Optus because the Singapore Govt has plenty of money without getting mine.... Telstra may have it's faults but they aren't a subsidiary of a foreign government.

Our NBN can't be far away as the local council has made mention of it in terms of coverage. Outside the town built up area it will be wifi which will get done first but nothing said about the service to homes in the town yet.

Our ISP/landline carrier no longer takes new landline customers but will put you onto a free ISP service with ADSL2. No call costs except for ringing mobile numbers. We can do that now and keep current number if we want and for the same cost ($79.95) and our internet jumps up double to 200Gb a month.

Because I'm an iiNet ADSL2/home phone customer I've got a $20/Month Sim with $450 worth of call credits and 1.5 GB of data.

It uses the Optus Network which has better coverage than I had when I was on Vodafone.  Coverage was the only reason I left Vodafone as once I got out in the country I often had no coverage and teh reassurance of knowing in an emergency I could make a call was important. I had been pleased with the pricing and plans at Vodafone.

If I could afford it I'd have a Sat Phone, but the prices are  :eek.

I've looked at the Optus coverage for the SS1600k and Pretty sure I'm going to have coverage for most of the trip.  :runyay

Hi Everyone
I've just moved the family (5 services) over to Jeenee mobile (from crazy Johns as they are closing)
Its a not for profit organisation that donates phone services to people with disabilities.
Its on the Optus network and for $25 a month there's a call centre in Australia, $500 in calls, unlimited texts, unlimited calls between Jeenee mobiles, 1.5GB data billed in 10k blocks and month by month so you're not locked in.
The best part is they inform you as you approach the limit then stop you when the limit is reached rather than getting huge bills
My daughter ran up $150 in excess data in one month with CJ's and I was not happy.
The downside is they don't have the coverage of Telstra but I don't mind if people cant always call me.
Regards
John

I'm with Telstra... have been, since 1967. Have home phone and internet plus mobile.
Never had any issues.
As I am only 150 metres from our exchange, I get very good broadband internet speeds, commonly 2.4 Meg per second, altho just recently late at night when they were testing the exchange capabilities in preparation for the NBN changeover, I was getting download speeds of between 18 and 32 megabytes per second..... I downloaded 8 complete movies in just 11 minutes!
Cheers, Kev

Noble sentiment Craig but that is precisely the reason Telstra is so bad.

If more people voted with their feet the level of service of it's competitors would improve because the greater revenue would allow them to invest more in competing infrastructure.  Telstra then would find themselves in a true competition and their service would have to improve  or they would go under.

The only reason  I am with Telstra is because none of the other networks work where I am.

Telstra for my mobile.
Amaysim for Chris'. Cost $2 for sim. No contract. Post paid. Less than $10 every couple of months.
Optus for internet and home phone.
Looking at GPS tracker for bike and caravan. From DMME. Probably pre paid Telstra for Sim card for tracker
Pretty good run, no complaints with any of them.

I have been with VODAFONE for 14 years with 4 mobiles and have had terrible coverage and service!
I have recently transferred 2 mobiles to $18 VAYA mobile (uses OPTUS) sim only and find it is a great plan for our teenage boys, unlimited sms, plenty talk and 1 gb data
I will do the same when my contract ends and leave VODAFONE for ever, cant wait!

btw,
I was with TPG for internet for 1 year and had nothing but grief!
They are the WORST internet provider!
Switched to Telstra Cable 200gb with landline incl. it is hassle free

With Telstra and extremely happy with the coverage. Limited need for any customer service but what contact I have had with them has been hassle free. Rides from Adelaide to Darwin and Adelaide to Biloela have resulted in phone coverage for most of the way. I also had a phone with Vodafone as a back-up. May as well have left it at home as poor coverage. Home phone still connected but mainly for the Security System. Majority of calls etc. are done on mobile.   :thumbsup

Changed to Telstra at Christmas, I now have 4G so not sure if coverage us better or not yet.

Still have found some back roads without coverage including between Woolooga and Biggenden.
