Scary when 'experts' tell people directly opposite things...I can only assume that the manufacturer of the bike TYRE knows best, and go with the pressures they recommend.
Well I have just crossed through the 26,000th km on my front PR2 and got 24,000km from the rear PR3 by putting 42psi front and 44psi rear with the suspension preload and rebound set fairly high (stiff). I don't reckon I'll be listening too hard to someone who tells me to change this set up.
I have NEVER ridden to try and CONSERVE tyres or petrol either.
Did I mention I regularly scrape footpegs and boots too? (Handling must be OK on this set up).
Keep in mind though - these are NOT the tyres the factory chooses to shoe her with - so you should really talk to the tyre manufacturer of the brand you are running and ask their recommendations for THIS tyre on THIS bike in THESE climate conditions.
OR...................
Be like good ol TerryDJ and just ride the damn thing as he has done successfully for decades without worrying too much on the hypocritical 'devil in the detail'
Hope this helps.
Cheers, Diesel
