I had a similar feeling when I first installed mine Pete....although have never come close to slipping off them.

Chris, do you find that you feet are resting on the tip ends of the blades, or squarely on the middle of the serrated section?
I do like your suggestion of longer spacer under the acorn nut on the blade tip.   I could turn up a pair from aluminium or black nylon, which may be my simplest solution.   Option 2 cold be to design and fabricate a "thingo" to fit within the hinge joint, to somehow limit how far the blades will swing out.

This may be a simple and cheap solution for you Pete  :think1

Longer counter sunk bolt and series of washers and put the acorn nut back on......I would go to a chandler and grab it all in S/S  :think1

Here's my take on this suggestion.  I've turned up some black nylon spacers and used longer SS M6 countersunk head bolts with the original cap nuts.  It remains to be tested on the road.

Considerably easier to flick in or out, and the extension seems to catch my boot and prevent further lateral sliding once my foot gets near the end of the blade.  Watch this space for a further update.   :popcorn
