Does this help?

Taken from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Turboprop

Turboprops are very efficient at flight speeds below 450 mph (390 knots; 725 km/hr) because the jet velocity of the propeller (and exhaust) is relatively low. Due to the high price of turboprop engines, they are mostly used where high-performance short-takeoff and landing (STOL) capability and efficiency at modest flight speeds are required. The most common application of turboprop engines in civilian aviation is in small commuter aircraft, where their greater reliability than reciprocating engines offsets their higher initial cost. Turboprop airliners now operate at near the same speed as small turbofan-powered aircraft but burn two-thirds of the fuel per passenger.[2] However, compared to a turbojet (which can fly at high altitude for enhanced speed and fuel efficiency) a propeller aircraft has a much lower ceiling. Turboprop-powered aircraft have become popular for bush airplanes such as the Cessna Caravan and Quest Kodiak as jet fuel is easier to obtain in remote areas than is aviation-grade gasoline (avgas

it wasn't Heather.........

Another thing about turboprops.........looks like they're making a coming back on short haul flights (70 passengers or less and under 500 miles) mainly due to the high price of oil.

loosely paraphrased from here http://www.economist.com/blogs/gulliver/2012/02/air-travel-and-turboprop-revival

Thw turbo prop engine, produces not so much thrust. Its designed to turn a another fan to turn a gearbox that spins the prop. The engine and prop spin at max rpm, with speed being controlled by prop pitch.

The efficiency of the turbo prop is very good. A petrol engine to provide the same power and speed is a lot bigger and heavier. eg, a trurbo prop to power a spitfire would be quite small ( but wouldnt souind any where near as good.

A pure jet engine to drive the plane, has all sorts of problems. like needing a hole through the plane for the exhaust (in the case of single engine

Another reason they are ideal for commuter aircraft (as well as the fuel efficiencies mentioned above) is they can accelerate quickly with a relatively high-lift aerofoil and so only need a short runway.  Similarly, they can land on a very short runway and selecting reverse thrust on propellers is more efficient at aerodynamic braking than reverse thrust on pure jet engines (see "STOL" above).  As for the jet thrust component, 8% of the forward thrust is attributable to the escaping exhaust after it spins the prop gearbox turbine.

The next installment will explain the differences between these and the turbofan engines.

Which reminds me.... I have almost literally turned the house, garage, bike and bags upside down and inside out, looking for a misplaced Sena Bluetooth Comms module - to NO AVAIL!

Almost as certainly as my    :butt    points to the ground I will find it now - because I have just ordered a replacement unit for $130!!!       :eek         :well

So, if you see this...   :cuss     - you'll know that I have 3 units now, but only need two!      :fp

There is one good thing about having 3 units… :think1 :think1

When your doing FarRides you can have one always charging while using the other (the 3rd can stay on the missus helmet :whistle)
This way you’ll never have to have a cable running from your headset to the bike or have it run out of power :grin :runyay

Something similar. A device plays up, you do the cleaning/maintenance/whatever to it and nothing seems to work. Then after paying for a new device but before it arrives the old one starts working perfectly..just needed time to annoy me  :cuss

Usually the best way to find something is to stop looking for it. Generally you'll find it while looking for something else.

We've had it happen a few times.

Currently for me it's a new indicator relay and a couple of those screw in plastic clips which I bought for spares a couple years ago. Now I need the clips when I put the bike together and I can't find them and I ordered two more.

I'm completely over the showers here.  A ride I planned last Saturday was washed out.  Ditto a Sunday-before-Church  Ride-To-Breakfast.  On and off all week.
I'm just hoping it's raining itself out for a fine March!

Looking at the national composite radar there's quite a few centres copping it.  Just hope the WA & NT cyclones behave themselves.  They've been known to go right across the country, or right down their own coast.

This is the tracking info to date for my parcel.

I am not sure  how a parcel posted to Australia can end up in a European country called Belgium.
Did somebody in the post office mis-read Australia for Austria?

E-mail sent to both parties to find out why.

Good thing it's Priority Mail.
It would take a lot longer to get here if it was Standard Mail!

I suspect you're right about "Austria".  Some dude in NY shoved it in the "Goto Europe" bin and off it went.
Should soon pass through Italy, India and Indonesia.
