Howdy All
« on: May 05, 2019, 10:33:37 PM »
Hi everyone thanks for accepting me I am from Mandurah area WA, and I am a forced retired veteran.

Just purchased ex Police 6/2003 ST1100 with 91550 km on clock, was originally purchased at Police Auction seven years ago and owner had grand plans to tour Australia.

He stripped it down replaced timing belt, hydro-bathed and balanced carburetors and then it sat in shed until 2 days ago when I test rode and immediately purchased. In the last seven years he would have been lucky too have ridden it 2000km and has replaced battery several times.

He said everything else was good on bike, (he is old school mechanic).

I can't believe it was still available, and it was only due to the fact other buyers didn't do their research.

As soon as he told a prospective buyer it was 2003 model, they told him they were only made until 2002 and never even looked at bike.

From what I could research, Honda never released stock of 2003 model to public due to ST1300 model being released except Police who would get replacement stock until fleet was replaced with ST1300.

Was advertised at $1700 but negotiated to $1200 as current condition.

Bike rides smooth, no noises, pulls from below 60kph in top gear. It is cosmetically average scratched up panniers etc. Front footpegs scraped down to 45 so ridden hard by skilled Police, and crack in left side cover etc. It has been layed down as r/h pipe scraped scraped at about 30 degrees and plastic crash pad cover scraped.

So I will be after info on tyres and brakes and cheapest places for parts etc.

Thanks again for having me and video in link below.

You've done well.  My first bike when I returned to riding in 2006 was a 2000 ex Police ST1100.  They maintain them will, and with the PO's work it should serve you well for years.  They're a very reliable workhorse, and pretty cheap to feed.

Regarding tyres, there's a lot of us keen on Michelin PR4s.  Most of us get more than 20,000 kays out of a pair, and they handle very well in the wet or dry.
Just don't get this lot started on oils!  But I use Shell Helix HX5  :grin
For the modern man who lives in the city, riding a bike might be one of the only ways to escape the humdrum monotony. To take off and ride. To be both at one with nature and one with the bike. To feel masculine. Adam Piggott

Biggles,

I looked through every post last night for hours, and it seems it is hard to find correct size tyres for this beast, I am hopefully picking it up tomorrow to ride it home. The tyres on it still have tread but are still original Police Issue so may be a bit loose in the wet by now.

I will try and keep it the size as it currently has whatever that is.

Regards,
