Hi Folks

New to the forum and been away from bikes for about 10 years now. Recently I have been thinking of getting back on one. Last bike was a FJ 1200 and I have been toying with the idea of getting something of about the same size.

Been looking out for ST11s, K100s, FJ12s, GPZ11s but I keep coming back to the ST11.

Hopefully I will find one soon!

I live in Perth NOR and would love to get together when I finally get a ride.

Just doing some research at the moment. Anyone know a good ST mechanic NOR?

Does anyone rebuild the OEM shocks in Perth?

Are the 11s high maintenance?

Hope those of you in WA can help.

Are 1100 Hi maint??? Only if you consider oil and filter changes hard work. They are a great bike, rock solid, and after you get used to the weight its real good to ride.

Welcome Alheng from York, this is a great forum with a trove of info, biased to the ST's. As for maintenance there is no end to the assistance available around here, we all help each other out, not that maintenance is an issue, they are bullet proof.
It would be great to meet up on a ride when you find one, they pop up accasionally.

Most of seem to do our own work, most of the servicings are basic stuff. My bike is over 100000Ks , and nothing major has been needed. Just tyres and oil changes. By all reports, these bikes are super reliable, and even keep going aftwer a roo strike (just ask Ray)

Yeah, been following them for the last month or so. Spent the day looking at bikes and have made an offer on one. The owner is having a think tonight, keeping my fingers crossed. The bike needs quite abit of work, but I figured that once I get it running right, I can slowly work on the rest of it.

Welcome Alheng! Maintenance on both STs is very car like. The only things that need fixing are usually age related, just like cars, as the ST11 has been around since 1990. I have a 1996 ST11 and it does not seem like it is 17 years old the way it goes (it may look like it a bit!)

Welcome Al. Is there any reason you don't have ST1300s on your list? There are some good buys around and while I could generate a lot of discussion on this site by suggesting they are better than ST1100s, they are definitely younger.

It's mainly due to budget as it's not a necessity atm, but a luxury item. Kinda tight at the moment.

Question for those of you that have the pre 96 STs - have you all done the alternator mod to the 40 amp unit? Do I have to worry about it if I don't intend to tap off power, other then a phone charger?

Hi Alheng,

Firstly, welcome to the lovely circus of the OZSTOC world.

I have an 1994 (28amp) alternator and I ran my Hola bluetooth comms (from Dale McLean, plug), mobile phone, Garmin GPS, to Middleton S.A. and back, no problems.

Well the guy didn't call back and I found another bike on Gumtree, but it's not a ST. Ah well, it was however a deal that was too good to pass up, so I grabbed it. Thanks for all the responses though. There might still be a ST in the stable in the near future though!

Never mind Al, though there were quite a few STs around. You dont have to leave but, hang around, participate in rides n stuff. Also come down for a coffee one saturday, I will be back on 04 May from 5 weeks in Thailand
