After the initial Bucket hat style trial we had enough feedback to look further afield....
Version 1.
So here is version 2 as a trial based on feedback from the bucket hat....
There are 2 sizes in this hat...M/L and L/XL or 59cm an 61cm, there may be a smaller size TBA.
We have chosen a grey colour similar to that of the previous men's shirt to alleviate the concerns of a black hat, the hat has a flat but mouldable brim and can be throw in as top load in a top box with minimal changes to its shape. It does have a chin strap that is removable with scissors :p if required.
These will have a retail of sub $30 delivered by Aust Post.
We currently have 2 hats on trial, 1 (61cm) is on trial with Lionel in Canberra and I have the other (59cm). Once I have had a play with the hat and my Pediculosis capitis subside I will pass the hat on to someone else to trial.
I have added a poll so you may indicate your thoughts or preferences.....please add any relevancy comments below.

I'll have one of those the guy with all the badges on his has. :thumbsup
A sensible sized brim (unlike Vn 2) that doesn't hang down like a curtain (as per Vn 1)! :grin

Version 2 looks good.
Cheers,

I'll be in for a 61 version 2 . . .

I concur with Biggles.

My 750 bucket hat (the one in the photo with the badges) is the same as the one Chris is modelling above, I just turned the brim up so I could see out of it!

Ah- so it comes back to the model. No wonder they pay models such big money when it's them that adds the value to the garment! :thumbsup

Version 2 for me, looks the goods..................... :wht11 :thumb

Not for me I'm afraid, but Version 2 is a far more practical hat.

I just want to put these down again as an example that there IS the ability to get a traditional bucket hat with a decent brim that does not impede vision.
I don't like the new big version as I have a similar hat at home and the brim becomes very 'weak' and tends to become super floppy after getting wet numerous times and then becomes useless as a hat due to the vision impairment.

Well I have warn the hat anytime that a hat opportunity arose....its mowed the lawn a couple of times now, it even got close to a fishing trip that got cancelled due to the weather.
It's soft, maintains a reasonable shape, provides heaps of sun protection, fits my goofy head and never once sort to take to the breeze.
The chin lanyard doesn't appeal to me and on my own hat I would remove (cut off). I wonder if having "Touring in STyle" the same as our caps would work on the rear of this hat or not :think1
The hat has just been washed with no ill effects at all....
So now it's time to pass to another for assessment. We will be attending the QLD RTE on the 23/04/17 and will pass the newly washed hat to another willing crash test dummy ;-*
Cheers

People who know me realize that I’m not an average size person. Normally, I have great trouble getting the right size when I order items of clothing.
Within two minutes of placing and re-placing version 2 on my head I noticed that the prototype OzSTOC hat was a very good fit for my head at 61cm. Not only a good fit but also very comfortable.
I agreed to take the hat home and give it a trial in real life situations. Regrettably I haven’t been fishing, caravanning or gardening to give the hat a proper trial. Usually, I only pack one hat when I’m on a motorcycle trip to identify myself as one of the group. I already have the OzSTOC ‘baseball’ style cap and one from the other pub.
I had “Lionel” engraved on one of these caps to make it easier for other riders to know who I was and also to help identify which of a collection of caps was mine. I’m not sure if I’ll do the same on the new style of hat but I probably will.
The version 2 hat is very similar to my Army issue hat though the OzSTOC hat is slightly larger as seen in the photo below.
(http://i851.photobucket.com/albums/ab78/Lionel_127/OzSTOC/Army%20on%20OzSTOC%20Hat%2061cm_zpskh99lj1k.jpg) (http://s851.photobucket.com/user/Lionel_127/media/OzSTOC/Army%20on%20OzSTOC%20Hat%2061cm_zpskh99lj1k.jpg.html)
Some people have made comments about the floppy shape and the chin lanyard. I prefer the soft, floppy style. I also much prefer a decent brim for keeping the sun off my ears and back of my neck. The version 1 hat may fit the bill though I think the baseball caps are next to useless for this purpose. In this photo taken at Government House in Canberra you can see the sun burning the left side of my face.
(http://i851.photobucket.com/albums/ab78/Lionel_127/Awards%20-%20CSC%202011%20Australia%20Day%20Honours%20List/ST1100atGovernmentHouse14Apr11No2.jpg) (http://s851.photobucket.com/user/Lionel_127/media/Awards%20-%20CSC%202011%20Australia%20Day%20Honours%20List/ST1100atGovernmentHouse14Apr11No2.jpg.html)
As for the chin lanyard, I’ve been in situations where I’ve needed both hands to land a fish in blustery conditions. I can’t show you the blustery conditions but here is one such huge fighting fish.
(http://i851.photobucket.com/albums/ab78/Lionel_127/Boats%20and%20Fishing/P8120065_zps7api7tad.jpg) (http://s851.photobucket.com/user/Lionel_127/media/Boats%20and%20Fishing/P8120065_zps7api7tad.jpg.html)
As an aside, my fishing return on investment is somewhere north of $7,500 per kilogram. So when I’m in Brisbane I generally catch my fish at Morgan’s Reef in the Redcliffe area. I never fail to catch fish in this location so as a favour to my OzSTOC mates here is the LatLong, -27.195276, 153.107764
In summary, I believe the version 2 hat is a better proposition than version 1 and certainly better than the existing cap. I’ll probably order two, one to keep in pristine condition for OzSTOC group photos and one for fishing, etc. I certainly recommend version 2 of the new style of hat to others.
-
Does the fish from Morgan's come with chips?
I would buy one or two of version 2 as well . .
-
I will definitely want 1 and most likely 2 of Version 2, one for each of the ST and GL top boxes. How long before they are available? Needed one for the York Motorcycle Festival yesterday!

Chris left the hat that he originally had with Shiney to test in QLD who intends to use it for a few weeks mowing etc and give us a report.
Based on the poll I think we have a winner.
So if you haven't voted yet, let's hear from you :think1
Pockey :KissBlow
(To be fair my vote was I wouldn't buy either) I'm not a blokey hat person, just saying o:)

Are we getting close to having version 2 in the shop?

Shiney modeling it in the sun at the RTE at Woodford at approx 11:00 am.
As you can see it is very effective at keeping the sub of the face and in particular the ears and back of the neck.
The first daytime RTE Shiney hasn't gone home with sunburnt ears. (https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170508/dbd4f863abfc2625138ddf2acb013609.jpg)

SHINEY'S HAT REVIEW
I normally just wear the OzSTOC cap to keep the glare off but I have been lucky enough to be given a chance to test out the OzSTOC Broad Brimmed Hat (version 2) :runyay
(https://image.ibb.co/i2nzEa/20170607_222249.jpg)
So I have been taking it with me all over the place, walking, driving, working around the yard and at RTE’s, it is very comfortable and fairly lightweight.
The brim is large enough to cover my face, ears and neck, it keeps the sun off so well that even when I forget sunscreen I don't get burned :rockon
(https://image.ibb.co/iYD6aF/20170601_131009.jpg) (https://image.ibb.co/dEddpa/20170601_131137.jpg) (https://image.ibb.co/haEONv/20170601_131043.jpg)
I have even tested it against the cap by removing it when out and about and instead putting on the cap…
I could immediately feel the heat on my neck, ears and part of my face :H, by comparison the broad brim provided great sun protection and made it noticeably cooler :thumbsup

The hat has a cord/chin strap that you can adjust to keep it on your head when it is windy, however I found it to stay in place by itself fairly well.
This hat maintains it’s shape very well even when it’s been packed badly, rolled up, folded, sat on, tossed or crumpled in a top box :clap :clap :clap

The OzSTOC Broad Brimmed Hat (version 2) seems very well made and has my recommendation :thumbsup

?????
They have been ordered some time ago....I will follow them up :thumbsup
-
So here is where we are at on the hats....
Order was placed and the Manufacturer has discontinued that colour and style :fp as so often happens in this industry.
So another manufacturer is now being sort who will produce a product as close as possible to the one we selected by the majority :thumb
If this had to happen I'm glad it was now and not after we made the order and received the first 25 hats.
stay tuned :thumbsup

May have a solution sooner than we expected ;-*
