Greg,

Just to muddy the water a little, what GPS are you intending to use. Some will operate directly off 12volts, others (Most) require 5 volts usually supplied by a cigarette type adapter.

I'd recommend the quartet harness

May have a wait for a harness, going to Thailand on wednesday, and still need a few bits.

Horizontal I have the 660 hard wired in two bikes with the supplied harness.  The harness handles the voltage control required in the mount for the GPS.

It has done around 80 000km in the last two 1/2 years so I think I can attest it will be safe bloke.

No relay required.

From the battery positive terminal place an in-line fuse to a luminated switch then to positive wire on the power sockets/USB.  This way the power sockets energised without the ignition on, I prefer this way, myself.

Negative wire from power sockets/USB to battery negative.

Power socket/USB and luminated switch lives in the nearside glove compartment.

It runs my Iphone, GPS, and spare Bikecomm bluetooth.

Will take photo if you like.

This is not a big job to do, and you can get your parts from Jaycar/Altronics/Ebay etc.

Cheers

So Abe are you powering all your stuff from bike 12v OR 12 V to your Bikecomm then run your phone/GPS etc power from it ?

The later is the way to fly as the bikecomm acts as a 12volt filter......cleans any up any spurious artefact (noisy sh!t) you might be getting through your headset.

I was running the iPhone via cig plug to battery.....but this gave noise during transmit on the UHF to the reciever and a quiet wine/burb/buzz/fart in my speakers.....easily overridden by the music however.

Moved power to Bikercomm and all gone.

Cheers

I'm getting no extra noise through my helmet speakers (unless the current wife rings).  Bikecomm is bluetooth from phone to helmet, so no cables at all.

12V is only for charging the second bikecomm bluetooth unit, GPS & Iphone.

The 1100 being a 94 model she has the 28Amp alternator, though these units draw very little anyway.

I've had my temporary 12 volt power set up like this for the last seven years (if it ain't broke, don't fix it) but without the switch.

In process of upgrading to dual power socket which will give me one for the GPS and a spare for charging the phone etc while on the move.

Under the LH side panel are the relays. There is one listed as being ACC. Take a feed from there. You will have solder a wire onto the terminal. The other option as mentioned is to use the harness, which Brock can make.
