Converting a HD rider
« on: October 25, 2018, 09:34:52 PM »
Last weekend saw some significant events in my life.

The main one was my eldest got married to a wonderful girl, they've been together for many years and still so young!

The other event was my brother-in-law, a Harley rider, together with my sister, were staying with Sandra & myself. Thanks to John G, my ST1100 was rideable again after plastic welding & painting my broken mirror housing.

So, with a borrowed helmet and gloves from me (he had to wear his HD jacket), we set off with him on the 1100, while I rode the 1300 last Sunday.

We only did around 130 kms, but managed to take him on a variety of different rides, twisties and freeway etc.

His conclusion? "I want one". After that distance on the HD, he'd be fatigued & battered, whereas, the ST he felt comfortable and relaxed and could have ridden further.

Next step, convincing my sister (& his wife) to get one. But the plus there is he was shocked at the price of an ST compared to almost any HD. He might not have such an argument, so JD, Williamson, Ppopeye & Ace, might have another local Dandenong's rider in the next few months.

My touring mates "Fish" and "Tully" both ride HD Heritage Specials, which in my opiion are a very nice looking HDs.   "Fish" has ridden my old (now Shillas's) ST1300, but is unconvinced as he loves his HD.   However, while well out of earshot of his wife, he has confided that a Beemer could be on the radar if he was to buy another bike.
