Sabie, don't forget to watch out for goats during the day too.

and emus, camels, wild pigs, snakes, cattle, horses, sheep, eagles, abandoned HDs and broken down cars.
For the modern man who lives in the city, riding a bike might be one of the only ways to escape the humdrum monotony. To take off and ride. To be both at one with nature and one with the bike. To feel masculine. Adam Piggott

Well I never collected any of those, just a goat about 2pm in afternoon about 50km west of Cobar. Fortunatly in a truck so no damage, only to goat. Are those abandoned HD's the ninety five percent that didn't make it home?

Speaking of goats.

If coming from the west, from Norseman to the Kambalda turn off seem to a bad place for them. http://goo.gl/maps/YxEYF

I've never had a problem with goats but I have seen them dead on the side of the road.

Now that's another useful Road Fact that could go into our Roadwiki that's starting to evolve.
It's not the surface that's the problem in this case, but what runs on the surface.  Obviously there's a breeding head of feral goats that's staked a claim to that scrubby country.
For the modern man who lives in the city, riding a bike might be one of the only ways to escape the humdrum monotony. To take off and ride. To be both at one with nature and one with the bike. To feel masculine. Adam Piggott

Sabie posted "Looks like the best route for me would be townsville to hughenden, turn south down through Aramaic..."
Depending on the bike you ride it may be safer to go Hughenden, Winton (sealed all the way) then Longreach, Barcaldine, etc. Thats the way I rode in December last year.

Hi Lionel

Yer, I was contemplating going Torrens Creek to Aramac as there's only 30k of dirt now and would save a few hundred k's. but I'll go the hughenden Winton road and stay on the hard standing. Camp overnight in Winton.

That reminds me Sabie - EVERYONE who is doing ULTRA DISTANCES to get to Middleton...

Make sure you document your odometer AS YOU LEAVE, and see Streak after you check in, with your mileage, for a shot at the furthest travelled trophy.

You FNQ guys might give some of the Westies a run for their money at this rate!

Cheers, Diesel

Keep an eye out for "Mad Turkey Mitch" Glen - he pulled off a 3,900 to take home the gold last year!      :eek

He may shoot up to Denham or Mt Newman first!      :rofl

I'm dropping back from confirmed attendance (leave approved, ex flying in to look after the kids, trip planned) to a maybe. My mum is critically ill in intensive care, she has been unconscious and on life support since Saturday when we nearly lost her to septicemia. They're doing a CT scan today to see if there's any brain damage since she's been off the sedatives since Monday and still not showing any sign of waking up. Unless she improves drastically, I won't want to be too far away. I have everything crossed that can possibly be crossed that she gets better.
