QLD RTE ideas
« on: June 14, 2014, 05:36:55 PM »
Shiney and I have volunteered to be Ride coordinators for Qld and our role is to keep the RTE threads up to date, try to come up with a few RTEs for the year, carry some OzSTOC merchandise and help out where we can.

We aren't expecting to be able come up with all rides and destination and we are seeking your suggestions.

We'd even like to see some mid week options for shift workers.

With both of us based in SE Qld we will definitely need some help from those up north in coming up with RTEs up that way.

So OzSTOCers:
  • What ideas have you got?
  • Where would you like to go, that you haven't been before?
  • Where would you like to return to?
  • What overnighters do you think could be interesting/entertaining?
Looking forward to hearing some ideas.

Thanks

I could provide some ideas but I think it may be a bit far for most people to ride just for lunch.

Some top Bikers' Cafes in Brisbane region:

Elm House Cafe Mt Glorious
Maiala on Mt Glorious
Pitstop on Mt Mee
Bellbird Tea House near Kenilworth
Twin Pines at Natural Arch
Thunderbird at Mooloolah
Bakery in Esk
Kai Lounge in Moore
Cafe Boombana on Mt Nebo
For the modern man who lives in the city, riding a bike might be one of the only ways to escape the humdrum monotony. To take off and ride. To be both at one with nature and one with the bike. To feel masculine. Adam Piggott

Maybe an Overnighter up your way.  Some of aren't afraid of clocking up the k's for some company. :grin

I have a brother in-law in Townsville and brother in Rocky.

Thanks Biggles.  Thats a good list. :like

Diesel and I've been to Maiala and it is definitely good.   Thunderbirds was good too.

I haven't been to Cafe Boombana so that could be interesting.

As I rode through Moore the other day I thought I should stop there one day and check out Kai Lounge.

I also haven't stopped at Pit Stop yet so that is on the cards.

I've also had a thought of a Cafe crawl RTE.  Morning Tea at one, Lunch at another and Afternoon tea at a third.  8)

e.g. Cafe Boombana then Maialia then Pit Stop.

I know of a nice Cafe in Childers too, and I fancy a ride to Bundaberg/Bagara one day for lunch.
Cheers,
Gary

Hey Gary, can I steal your post for the WA section ??
You covered all bases and a great idea to get input from members rather than just arbitrarily stating a destination. (We have had a couple of rather average destinations here lately).
If yes, then  :beer in advance...
If no, then  :'(

I haven't been to Cafe Boombana so that could be interesting.

Nice outdoor bush settings with magpies and kookaburras waiting for scraps.  Fair bike parking, depending how many cars already there.

Elm House at Mt Glorious a bit nicer than Maiala actually- very nice deck and indoors.

and it just so happens that the RTE at Twin Pines is this weekend, although it is now called the "Natural Arch Cafe"
I acknowledge hardworking Australians no matter who they are or where they come from. All those who have contributed to this wonderful country deserve an equal share of gratitude for their contributions. To single any group of individuals out for special homage only denigrates the rest of us.

We have been going to go back to Nindigully Pub for ages, being a pub may not suit everyone. Not a lunch ride though for most. There is camping and a few rooms at the pub.

And if you have the munches they have a little hamburger called the road train burger, has a 1kg beef patty on it  :eek

Thanks Jean.  ++

That looks like a decent ride.  might have to keep this in mind for an overnighter there or at St George with Nindigully for dinner.
Cheers,
Gary

Coffee and cake venues.
Lookout Cafe- Glasshouse Mts.
Cormorant Bay Wivenhoe Dam.

Lunch venues. (There maybe a common thread here)
Glasshouse Mountains Tavern
Woodford Pub
Mapleton Pub
Plainlands Pub
Kenilworth Pub
Dugandan Pub
It's endless in terms of venues at the end of "a long and winding road."

:candystwheelie

Mary Cairncross Park Cafe Maleny is a nice destination too.

So is Rathdowney Pub.

Skip the ones with a  ++ I can vouch for doing a nice feed, good car park and plenty of room.

I know some members don't particularly want to do Pubs, but we are catering to a wide audience, so some pubs and some cafes and some Restaurants , (and we've got a shedful to choose from in each category) will likely be the way things pan out.  Especially with the number of decent destinations we have in Paradise.

Thanks for your ideas and keep them coming.

Your States RTE Co-Ordinators have their planning underway for next years OzSTOC RTE calendar  :hatwave.....if you have a recommendation for a RTE that encompasses a great ride with a top notch destination post your ideas and experiences of a suitable location here for them to consider.

If anyone is interested in an RTE/overnighter (or two) the Australian Armour and Artillery Museum has just opened in Cairns and there is the Avenue of Honour (Afghan War Memorial) at Tinnaburra. These are both interesting places to visit and there are the usual tourist things and places to see up here and of course there are the terrible riding roads such as the Gillies, Kuranda, Rex and Palmerston Ranges and the Cook Highway ride from Cairns to Port Douglas.
There are numerous pubs, cafes and coffee plantations where sustenance can be obtained. I can recommend the First City Caravilla for accommodation they have camping, caravan spots and cabins. It's also opposite the Balaclava Pub which has good meals and a Dan Murphys Pharmacy, and just up the road from a major shopping centre.
