Fitting/Mounting Delkevic Exhaust on a Honda ST1100
« on: December 01, 2012, 10:33:26 PM »
Below is my experience at fitting/mounting 450mm stainless Delkevic slip on exhausts.

First step, put the bike on centre stand, and remove plastic covers as shown below, also I put down some old blankets in case I dropped one of the exhausts, saves a lot of damage in the long run if you slip.

As you can see above I also removed the screws on the big alloy plate, so that it gives you room to remove the stock exhaust. (Do this on both sides)

The bolts underneath wear the exhaust joins the headers where very tight on mine, so had to use plenty of WD40 on bolts and join area to work everything free, be careful to as it discovered it pops off and you end up sitting on your bum looking foolish!

The Delkevic's come very well packaged, and is a very simple mounting process:

I put everything in place peice by peice and tightened nothing until it was all together, here are some photos of the process:

I also loosened the bracket, and slip it onto the connecter pipe to make sliding the exhaust onto the pipe easier

I made sure all the nuts where facing down for easy access if I have to adjust or tighten at a later stage.

The rubber strapping goes on the inside of the pipe bracket.... :crackup which my brain laughed at me after I put it expertly on the outside!

And ta da! You end up with the finished product:

Here are a couple of videos without pipes and with the Delkevic's on and running:

Re video 2, yes we've all done that, just too good not to.  :thumbs
Did you have to replace the gaskets in the collector box, or do the new pipes fit straight in?

I know that the later staintunes are a bit louder than the earlier ones on mine, even with the baffles in.

Mine still need to burn in but with the baffles in it sounds just how I wanted it, and not like a wipper snipper!

I don't, I just take the bolt out of the bottom of the shock and the swingarm drop down enough to get the axel out. Don't need to touch the mufflers.

And so these don't affect the fuel consumption or range etc? No fiddling with carbs required?

My understanding, (from reading many posts on the US STOC site) is that some folk have spent a lot of time and money trying to improve the performance of the STs, and the end result was lots of $$$$ for very little (if any) gain.

Im sure Streak will be keeping an eye on fuel consumption to see if there is any effect other than a change of note.

from everything reported no change in anything really, apart from about half the weight, sounds a heap better, and you have more chrome.....  :thumbsup

I have staintunes fitted with no jetting change. Apart from the better note, I feel the pipes has loosened up a few extra horses in the 2500 to 4000rpm range, right where you need it for safe overtaking.

My stubbie Delkevics have got 3,000k's on them now and i run them without the baffles...
Just love the sound from 3 to 4 thousand revs with a bit of throttle on...
they definately got deeper and louder with a bit of carbon biuldup, but i still won't put the baffles in  :thumbsup

Ok guys, a quick question. I put the Delkevics on over the weekend (love the new note), but is it better to run them for a bit with the baffles in or will it make no difference with them out?  I notice a few comments about burning them in, then take out the baffles. Necessary?

TIA
Nate
