Title: Low fuel light doesn't work properly.
Post by: Kaplang on October 06, 2013, 01:30:30 PM
1997 ST1100. Fuel light comes on momentarily when the key is on like it should but the light does not come on when the fuel tank has a gallon or less of fuel. Where should I start to resolve this problem? Everything else on the bike is ok but I want my low fuel warning light back.

Thanks,

George

I think the switch is in the fuel sender unit.

My fuel light has also stopped working, I ran out of petrol not knowing it had stopped so now I use the odometer to track my fuel usage. When I get to 480 K's I head for a petrol station as I will get no more than 502 K's from a tank, I found out the hard way on this one. The globe still works as it comes on when the ignition is turned on.
If I get enough enthusiasm to fix it I will probably have a play with my fuel gauge sender at the same time as the gauge shows empty at about 350 K's when I still have a fare amount of petrol left in the tank.
