Mt Tongariro Eruption
« on: August 11, 2012, 03:46:39 PM »
Sorry, not a very good shot as the weather was packing it in but a bit of steam visible on the right of the mountain. The new crater is just above the cloud line. Quite a lot of ash on the road to ride through from the eruption earlier in the week and a very strong smell of sulphur. No ash in the air which was good as I'm sure ST's aren't designed to suck up carborundum! A lot of "Danger, No Stopping' signs and the scientists say more eruptions to follow but motorcyclists were still coming from all directions to have a sticky (Read about us in the next issue of The Darwin Awards perhaps?).

Well, that is definitely something we don't get in Australia!  NZ is a place I definitely have to get back to (work paid for the first time :)
