Cut down my ST1300 windscreen - pics and vid....
« on: February 07, 2013, 07:58:34 PM »
So, I cruised in to my 'perspex guy' and got him to cut down the OEM windscreen, as I have fitted a V-Stream job, and the OEM was just sitting around....

These pics aren't too clear - but I think you get the idea.

I reckon (will report after test ride), that this will cut out the buffeting that most windscreens cause for a 6'4" tall person, anyways)....

... and a quick vid...

ST1300 with cut down windscreen

ST1300 out and about showing wind noise from raising/lowering windshield

Interesting, does the screen still hit the spotties?

Yep. It's the 'ears' that kiss the spotties on the way past - they still remain.

Added a few more (read "better") pics of the cut-down windscreen to my first post.

I must say that it is FANTASTIC! I'm thinking of going full time - i.e. touring (read rainy weather) and all with this screen.      :thumb

If you have ever stood up on your footpegs, you get a nice blast of non-turbulent air, as you are in the airstream that is unaffected by fairings and screens etc - well this little mini screen gives a similar effect in the seated position (for my height and my 'built up' custom seat).

When raised, you still get that pocket of still air, although not the same quality, but I believe it will offer an adequate amount of protection against rain when required.

I have one more vid to add that I filmed whilst on the move of raising/lowering the screen.

I like!   :thumbs

I agree Diesel, a cut down screen certainly improves air management around your helmet.  Just before advertising my bike I fitted an ESA summer screen which looks identical to your cut down version.  I'm 5'11" and the worst of the buffetting was hitting me around shoulder level which felt quite pleasant on a hot day.  For me, there wasn't a huge reduction in helmet noise but I could see a greater improvement for a taller rider like yourself.

Cheers,

Tony

I have added my final vid on this subject - it shows the ST13 moving along the road, and captures the noise level differences when the cut down screen is raised or lowered.
