Thanks for the pictures. This style is very common on the police bikes as it allows the motor officer to lay the bike down at slow speed, especially if they are chasing a runner, without doing too much damage to the plastics, etc.
The various crash bars for the ST1100 were originally made by a company located up the coast just north of Los Angeles. I called them several times to see if they could make more sets but was told that they no longer had the jigs available....after 9 years I think they assumed that the 1100 was never coming back! After following up on countless dead-end leads I decided to go it alone and have a set fabricated.
I'm still getting used to the extra width, especially when splitting lanes, but I do like the additional protection, just in case the bike ever does decide to greet Mother Earth!
