Title: Not-the-NatRally (VIC) Lakes Entrance - Friday 16 to Sunday 18 October, 2020
Post by: Williamson on April 29, 2020, 11:01:03 AM
... I will ask the state and territory RTE coordinators to endeavour to have an RTE on the 10th of October to get as many ST’s and other nearly as impressive motorcycles on the road for a catch up ... Chris

SAVE THE DATE

Time - probably the usual

Venue - to be arranged and advised.

Details - to be advised.

Suggestions welcome via posts or PM's, but (because I'm organising) I'll probably decide on where I want to go anyway.

Having said that, I'll probably select a central location and venue within around 200km of Melbourne, a smaller town that would
appreciate our patronage and $$ (Ballarat, Bendigo, Benella, etc.. can look after themselves).

I'll also keep in mind that some peoples may want to make it an over-nighter, so will look for a place with accomodation choices.

In the meantime, flood me nominations, but also keep in mind my above comments, and the fact that some people will nominate some diametrically opposing locations, so (as is often) it will be difficult to please all of the people, all of the time.

Thanks for some quick responses.

Re. date, I'm confused.  The NatRally at Mudgee was to be Sat 17 Oct 2020, whereas the suggestion was to organise an RTE for Sat 10 Oct 2020 (which I have in this thread) now that Mudgee has been cancelled.

SA has an "Not the NatRally" RTE for Sat 17 Oct 2020, as mentioned in this thread and post:

http://ozstoc.com/index.php?topic=13685.0 (http://ozstoc.com/index.php?topic=13685.0)

... SA already has an RTE scheduled for that day, for those wo were not able to get to Mudgee.

Perhaps this why BD is planning on coming to VIC - I wonder where he'll stay overnight?

Re. Location, I have knocked-up this listtle map, the shaded area shows a 200m radius from Melbourne CBD, the blue pins are locations of most previous RTE's.

I'm just keeping my options open.  SA news the other night said border closures could be one of the last restrictions to be lifted so I haven't committed to anything yet, although I haven't cancelled my Mudgee accommodation yet.  I'll probably contact them tomorrow to see what they suggest regarding transferring my booking until march.  Work is a bit of a mess as well as our area is getting taken over by new contractors but after cancelling so much already I am itching to go somewhere.

Bright Caravan Park has great owner/managers and cater for large motorcycle groups.

As well Bright is a great motorcycle riding road hub!

Ticks a couple of boxes.

... Reefton Hotel ...

Not many options for those want to turn it into an overnighter.

Ticks a few boxes. And there is also the Bright Brewery - another box ticked.  I suppose you might see which way I'm leaning.

There's accommodation at the Hotel, I believe....and plenty more at Warburton...  :think1

First Trip Advisor review I came across put me off.

Fair enough, but as far as food goes, it seems like they are okay.
I think there are new-ish people running it these days as well.

I called in there late last year and the guy running it was very friendly, especially considering I'd only called in to use their loo... :whistle

Unfortunately I can't comment about their accommodation...but like I said, there are plenty of other options in Warburton.

Here's another suggestion...Wyanga Park Winery and Henry's Cafe, Lakes Entrance.

https://www.coastalstays.com/wyangapark/ (https://www.coastalstays.com/wyangapark/)

Lakes Entrance, one of our favourite destinations.  A must when there is a seafood platter at Miriams, yummmm!

And, if I recall correctly, owned and operating by the same people that have the winery and cafe.  We visited all of these venues on our last Lakes Entrance stay - Cup Weekend 2018, I think.

Lakes Entrance would be good distination for an overnighter or long weekend, not sure about it for an RTE, a bit far there and back for probably all but our West Gippsland members.  In my case, it's 6 hours plus each way door-to-door, and 730km round trip.

Wouldn't get the pillion there and back on a day ride, or an over-nighter.  A long-weekend would be a possibility.

Here's a map of locations of VIC OzSTOC members (best I could do, and probably left a few out).
(https://i643.photobucket.com/albums/uu159/williamson_photos/RTE%20A%20Master%20List/VIC%20OzSTOC%20Members%20Map_zps4miiq17y.png) (https://s643.photobucket.com/user/williamson_photos/media/RTE%20A%20Master%20List/VIC%20OzSTOC%20Members%20Map_zps4miiq17y.png.html)

Always difficult to find a location that bests suits everyone.

Geez Michael, you must take the scenic route if it takes you 6 plus hours...lol.
Google maps reckons it's around 4...comparable to the RTE at Curdievale for us...  :Wot thuh:  :popcorn

Oh, and thanks for the map, that does make it a little easier to find a place that's sort of central...

Geez Michael, you must take the scenic route if it takes you 6 plus hours...

Spot on!  I usually avoid highways and freeways, burn some rubber, and take an opportunity to (again) to start a thread complaining about tyre wear.

This route usually involves a 30minute stop at Noojee, and bit longer at Maffra: https://goo.gl/maps/cMTqPqadNmu1S9T48

Not much interest shown (as yet), but thanks to those that have.  Might pick up some momentum over the next four or five months, but it would be good for VIC members, and others, to show some interest, indicate a preference in the meantime.

Here's hoping ....

For me, there is still too much happening in the background, so I can`t commit to any ride at this stage. Having said that, I am always happy to go with the flow. Still have my Mudgee booking, so that`s a definite maybe. Bike had a Major service early March, And I think we both, will enjoy a bit of " Blowing out the cobwebs " so to speak.
At this stage its a wait and see approach.
But its looking good, and I love hanging out with crazy people............... FFS,,,,,,Bring It On/////////////// :eek

100 Days to Go

Now that I have your attention, with only 100 days to go it's time to get our heads around this event.  Here's a summary of what I have in mind:

  *  Date:  Saturday 17 October, 2020.

  *  Dates: Friday 16 to Sunday 18 October, 2020 - for those that want to replicate the NatRally dates.

  *  Location: Lakes Entrance

  *  Venue: Woodbine Tourist Park (To be confirmed) - Cabins, Caravan sites, Tent sites, good facilities (camp kitchen, showers and toilets), over road from Bowls Club, near shopping centre, and cafes & restaurants.

     https://woodbinetouristpark.com.au/

  *  Itinerary (along the usual lines of a NatRally):

      #  Friday night:  Meet 'n' greet, BBQ, beers, and BS

      #  Saturday:  Breakfast

                           Ride to mystery lunch venue

Evening meal at Bowls Club, awards presentation, beers and more BS

                           Group photo opportunity

      #  Sunday:     Breakfast

                            Ride home

If you are interested in attending, post a response, send me a message, advise of dates you'll be attending, and I'll add you name to the attendance list.

When the tentative group booking has been accepted, I'll post and update and people can then make their own booking and payment arrangements.

Re. long sleeve T-shirts, I'm looking at various design options (to tailor the T to our event, if possible) and suppliers (to get a keener price).  When I know more, and if this is a definite goer, I'll start a new T-shirt specific thread.

In the meantime, interest can be posted here, but be patient with me when I ask (in the new thread) to confirm any previous responses.

You (anyone) will be welcome to VIC, just not sure if you will be welcome back to your home state.

About time for a BUMP, and an update.

I'm sure everyone is aware of the current VIC COVID situation, and whilst some of the restrictions are, err restrictive, I'm sure (hoping?) that we'll be okay to travel to this event by Friday 16 October 2020 - it is after all, 71 days away.  No end date has been nominated (that a quick Google could reveal, someone will be along soon if I'm wrong) but six weeks has been bandied about and that takes us to Monday 14 September 2020.  So with this event in another 30 days, we should be okay.

Re. accommodation, I have heard back from Woodbine Tourist Park, and they are happy at this stage to accommodate us, but numbers will be capped.  Not a COVID cap, but a Woodbine cap.  This because they have limited number of cabins (x 3) and a house (x 1), there of course plenty of powered caravan sites.  None are for the budget conscious - cabins approx. $145 per couple per night, sites $35 - $40 per night.  The booking page indicates that these are already booked, but I have been advised that this is not the case.

Anyways, another Google reveals plenty of motels and holiday flats for around $100 per couple per night (more for us to spend on beer, aye Nigel!), so I'll send some emails to alternative venues, and post an update.

Just as an observation, these guys perhaps, need to be a little careful about what their charging for accommodation.
Things are extremely lean at he moment, I would have thought that getting people thru the door, is far more important than pitching for upmarket accommodation.
Any-who, see what happens  :angry-old-man-smiley-emoticon

Well, for the Melbournians anyway.  Yuse folk in the Regions, from beyond the Fringe may still be able to attend.  Suppose I really don't know what you can do, where you can travel, have not kept pace with that stuff.  Assuming you have free travel within VIC (except for the Metro area), more than a few could attend.  Might be a bit inconvenient for the likes of Kev Murhpy (he's probably in the most difficult location) to travel to Lakes Entrance via Mansfield or Omeo, and then return.

For those that don't read the Facbook page.

At this satge I am not prepared to say that this event will proceed.

Whilst the COVID restrictions (as currently listed on the DHHS website) are to be relaxed on 28 September, thus allowing travel to, and gathering, at Lakes Entrance, there are two factors which may have an impact, these are:

1.  The dates may be changed - shortened (which would be good) or extended (bad).

2.  Melbournians might not be welcome in rural VIC.

Re. #2, listening to talk-back radio here in Melbourne, some callers from rural VIC have indicated that Melbournians will be welcome, some have indicated that we won't be welcome.  I'll keep my ear to the radio speaker for the next three weeks or so.  If the mood improves, we may be okay.

Given the uncertainty, I will not progressing with the T-shirts.

For what it is worth Michael, I would be happy to still get Tee shirts even if dates are changed, but am also aware that you would need a minimum quantity . . .

Unless social and travel retrictions are relaxed prior to the target date of Monday 26 October, 2020, it means that we will NOT be able to proceed with the "Not-the-NatRally (VIC) Lakes Entrance - Friday 16 to Sunday 18 October, 2020".

IF, IF, IF ... the Melbourne Metro area does extremely well with supressing new COVID cases, Dan-the-Man may decide to relax the restrictions earlier.   But for the event to proceed, any relaxing of restrictions would need to be announced early enough to allow enough time for everyone involved (OzSTOCers and Lake Entrance hosts) to get organised.  I'm thinking this would need to be by Friday 2 October - that gives us two weeks.

And then there are the buts and maybes ...
