Title: Hello from the Rolling Hills of Korumburra and Surrounds
Post by: Yorkshire Gal on June 15, 2020, 12:38:01 AM

Hi to everyone,

Thanks for letting me become a new member. Just letting you know I am Rustynutz' Wife, Sue.

A little bit about me in the context of motorbikes.

I have always yearned to ride, since my first boyfriend owned a Kawasaki Z650.
Unfortunately, ended up marrying my first husband who hated Motorcycles (no accounting for taste, I know).
It took me 23 years to wake up and realise my real passion was finding someone who liked motorbikes as much as I do. Enter Rusty...  :13Candy
I did attempt to get my Motorcycle Learners a couple of years ago, but felt a bit intimidated as I was the only one with no riding experience, only as a pillion.
I was told to go back for a 1 hour session one on one, but unfortunately back then I couldn't get away from my public service role to do it.

Since then, have been through some radical health issues, am now regaining my strength. Hooray.
I love getting out on the back of Russell's ST1300. It brings me great joy and freedom.

I worked in a bank for 8 years and then worked for Vicroads as a Licence Tester for 10 years. (Yes, I was one of those people).
Then escaped to become a driving instructor, running my own business. Road safety is a bit of an interest for me on account of this.

It's great catching up with the lovely folk at the RTE's.

I am a bit of an amateur when it comes to Forums, so please 'bear' with me.

Welcome to the Forum.  Maybe now Rusty will behave himself in here better...  :grin

When you get sick of Melbourne weather, you're welcome in Queensland.  We had Winter yesterday, so it's 22o from now until November.

Welcome to the forum Sue.

If you check out the long thread on Memes you'll get to learn some of the tricks that blokes apparently use when they want to buy 'another' bike or parts thereof.

Personally I don't go for any of those.  I use this:   :chocolate-box-smiley-emoticon

OK so it doesn't work in terms of getting me that new bike,  but it's a yummy treat anyhow.

Welcome to the freedom of posting your own ideas, thoughts and whatever, Sue ...

... I did attempt to get my Motorcycle Learners a couple of years ago, but felt a bit intimidated as I was the only one with no riding experience ... worked for Vicroads as a Licence Tester for 10 years. (Yes, I was one of those people)...

Nearly 20 years RoSTA (Road Safety & Traffic Authority), RTA, and then VicRoads for me.  This was from 1976 to 1994, and then in 2000 & 2001.   Mainly in road safety and traffic engineering, but also did motorcycle rider training and permit & licence testing on a weekend from 1983 to 1993 (before it was privatised) and also a stint in R&L in 1992.

I hope I wasn't the one that tried to discourage you from motorcycling.

I'm sure you don't need to worry Michael. If by chance you were Sue's first husband you would probably remember  :grin

A big warm welcome from South Australia.  :hatwave
We met in Curdievale earlier this year.

Thank you. I do remember, it was an enjoyable visit to Curdievale. Look forward to seeing you again at another RTE.
My Brother lives in S.A in Lower Mitcham (not sure if the spelling is correct) but basically a suburb of Adelaide.
Don't get over there very often, but I will have to get Russ moving at some point (when we can so we can start travelling again.)
Not that I would have to ask twice as he has the travel bug like me.  :thumbs

Thanks so much. I know what you mean. I have ISO fever. Umm, maybe I should rephrase that, oops. I have frustration, bouts of bad temper (although I would never admit to it in front of Russ, haha) I know you can read this Russ, and general feeling of misery that I was "STUCK".
Thankfully, Russ hasn't got too many scars ( that I can see, at any rate).  ;-*
Glad we are slowly gaining some freedom, and in all seriousness, I am so glad we live in this Country and not some others. Woohoo.

Thanks.

Queensland sounds SOOO tempting right now as we are couped up inside with a cold wet evening. As far as Rusty, I can't account for his behaviour lol.

I hope I wasn't the one that tried to discourage you from motorcycling.

Thanks, have no fear, it wouldn't have been you!!. Different time frame. Although, it's fair to say they were probably being realistic and obviously need to ensure you are capable enough to handle a motorcycle.

It was very high off the ground ( only one foot barely touched, and it was like a trailbike. I think because everyone else had experience riding on farms etc, I looked a bit pathetic lol. I did ride around for about 2 hours, I just didn't have the same confidence. It was fun and I was totally exhausted afterwards. Brain drain, I think. Anyway, it's my fault I didn't learn when I was younger.

However I have Russ to thank for letting me pillion ride with him and I really love it.

It's interesting to hear you have some similar background history re: safety and working in R&L. I left about 4 years ago to pursue my own business and share my experience and knowledge in a different way. I think I am contributing to putting some safer drivers on our roads. ( I hope so, anyway). Especially on our Rural and Regional roads. Plus I am an advocate for being rider aware and doing headchecks!! Russ makes sure I let them know about lane filtering etc. :grin

Thanks Steve, as far as getting you a new bike, have you upped your game to include flowers? Just a thought haha and thanks for the advice.  :grin

That's good to hear.  I do volunteer Driver Training with PCYC here in Brisbane, and make sure they are motorcycle-aware!  We call them "shoulder checks".
