Howdy from the Hawkesbury NSW
« on: September 21, 2020, 06:04:00 PM »
G'Day All,
Being well on the wrong side of 50, i'm new to all these forums so bear with me as i get up to speed.    I've just taken ownership of a preloved 2005 ST1300A.   It was to be something of a project bike for the anticipated 2nd covid wave lockdown, but after my first ride, the full project thing may have to wait.
I've been mainly on adventure bikes in my later life and my 1200GSA has made this type of touring a pleasure.   I guess I can say i'm blessed that my better half loves getting on the back and travelling and we've done a fair amount of both formed dirt and bitumen in nearly every state.   Now I'm also recalling the times when throwing a leg over was a pleasure, & now realise after the ST test ride, just how nice it is to be able to flat foot the ground!
I know there's a bit to do to get her dancing again with 100k of former duties but from what I've found on this site so far makes me believe the job will be enjoyable rather than becoming a task.

Looking forward to making the rest of this year brighter and drawing on the vast collective knowledge this family shares.
PS. A pic from Day 1.
PSS. Before the 'Bikes Made Weird' rant starts ill say this as I told the BMW sales manager where I get it serviced, "I love riding the GS but I certainly cant say the same thing about owning one"

Welcome Hooda from Brisvegas!

That is a nice looking bike, and I'm sure the back rest will get some use.

If it hasn't already got one, I can highly recommend an MC Cruise. Great for long distance rides, and even for short ones where you want to keep your licence.

Cheers,
Gadget.

A big welcome from South Gippsland, Hooda!  :beer

Hmmm, a 2005 ST...what a good choice!  :clap

If you're interested in a new screen, I can recommend "Bike-Quip"...not the cheapest option but they do sell quality screens.

I've also fitted one of these to my ST: https://www.healtech-electronics.com/products/sh

[Thanks for the welcome Bodo, there's some nice riding up here in the Hawkesbury and if your going to live in the mountains, better make sure you have something to enjoy it with (or 2).   Look us up next time you visit through, i know some nice curves. ]

[Thanks for the Welcome Leo,  Queensland and Tassie are only states i havent ridden yet.   My nephew recently bought a CB500XA up there in North Brisssy and is on his L's with no black licensed rider to escort, i've been wanting to get up there and take him on a real ride and do some exploring myself.    Damn Covid ]

Cheers Gadget,  I have an MC cruise on my R1200GSA,  didn't realise how much i used it until the throttle servo failed.  The guys at MC Cruise down in VIC are top blokes, extremely helpful and fitting one on this ST will be high on the list of must haves especially when this bike is going to be a big mile eater.

Thanks for the welcome & ST improvement suggestions ruSTynutz, ill keep them for reference for now until i get some time alone with her on the motorway.    She has a nasty headshake & i've been reading plenty of theories on the net but find after reading many of them, your left with more answers than solutions, one did suggest the screen, another the top box.   I'd get that if it was 120+km/hr but doubt that at 80.   I've got to get new rubber so for now, one step at a time.  Regards Hooda

I cant wait to get some more interstate touring going again & whilst i didn't think much of the Nullabor when i rode it, I got to admit the Stuart H'Way on the other hand, is one nice smooth bit of black top which left me wondering 'Who paid for this?, Why cant we have such a well made road in NSW? & when can i ride it again!
