how often do YOU change your oil?
« on: December 03, 2014, 12:00:26 PM »
so i saw this poll on another ST site and was interested in the results I saw ..... and the resulting 'discussion' points debated afterwards.

Do you change more often or less often than the manufacturer recommends?

Why?

None of the above on the ST1100. I usual do 10,000kms change just because you know things need doing at that interval, but if on trips I might do it at 15,000kms or more, but that is using full synthetic oil.

If that was on another ST site, are those miles?
I ask, because the ST13 interval is 12,000 km, which isn't on the list, and is what I use.

As near as possible to the required 12000kms and only once in 8 years have I missed one when due and did it after 24,000. My last oil change was 2000 past due and at 168000 should be done again now or before 170,000

Bought my bike with full History changed at 10-12 intervals as per book. had 52 on it ( Just Serviced ) now has 60, after 12 months so changed it last month together with brake and clutch fluid. Do again at 70K or 12 Mths and drop the fluids with it as well, nice and easy with a vac pump......
all in all not a difficult job and gets you in touch with the Karma of the bike ............................. :eek :wht11

10,000 km's using full synthetic oil on my 1100. Timed to match the odometer when it rolls over each 10 K.

All of the oil tests I have seen over the years point to the STs being very kind to oil compared to other bike. Using just about any oil will easily go the distance that Honda recommends. If you want to change early for any other reason (eg gear shift) that's ok too.
