Cree LED Light Install on ST1100
« on: July 13, 2013, 12:24:33 PM »
Bought myself some Cree LED Flood Lights to Replace the Halogen Flood Lights i had Mounted on the underneath my Mirrors on my 1996 Honda ST1100, was a pretty simple swap over but the light and draw difference is going to be fantastic!

LED's Specifications:

LED Light Description:
Material :Aluminium housing
Colour: Black
Power supply:DC 12V(motor or car)
LED's for Light: 3 LED
LED Power: 3W per LED
Current:1.5A
Led colour temperature: 5000k-6000k
Working life: >50000 hours, 5-10 years
Power:12W top brand CREE led (12W per light)
Luminous:500LM under nature temperature

Where I got them from:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/2-X-Cree-LED-Motorcycle-Fog-Driving-Lamp-Head-Light-KTM-BMW-ATV-W-Controller-/380656384858

Photos Below:

Lights Size Difference

Original HID/Halogen Setup

It was a pretty simple swap over, didnt have to change fuses or anything as the draw from the LEDS is much much less than the Halogens

After install Photos:

Low Beam:

Headlight (H4 Xenon Bulbs)

High Beam:

I do very little night riding, but decent lights would be a must for night touring, and you seem to have achieved something special.   Great Farkling!   If I ever need  to fit some aftermarket spots, the Cree Set looks like a very useful addition.

Certainly makes the low beam look sick!

It's a blatant hijack, but was anyone else sucked in by this great bit of stunt riding on the same Youtube page?
I'm not embedding it to reduce the hack-factor.

For the modern man who lives in the city, riding a bike might be one of the only ways to escape the humdrum monotony. To take off and ride. To be both at one with nature and one with the bike. To feel masculine. Adam Piggott

these LEDs and the controller worry me a bit.
IF the controller draws 8 amps then the unit is drawing an amp less then 2 x 55w globes, admittedly a lot brighter. but not giving the earlier 28 amp alternator a rest. which is why I am LED shopping.
also how does one get on with the control fob with gloves and where to stick it ?

I considered the control box and promptly threw it in the bin, decided the lights are for seeing better not setting the mood....

Love the setup. Could you tell me a little about the brackets you used to mount them on. Want to do something similar with st 1100
