Just wondering If anyone has trouble with headlights blowing on their 1100? Bought mine new in 2000 and have had to replace them about every 2 years. Is this a common thing?

Fairly common I think. I used to average about a pair every 12 to 18 months but the Km travelled back then was something like 30,000 a year. Now I'm looking at about two years maybe more for a pair.

Take into account that unlike most cars you're lights are on all the time where as you mainly use the lights at night on a car etc.

 Tezza ,I replace the left side more often than the right, and to save a few $$ you can buy an adaptor ring to use the STandard H4 globes instead of the Honda specific globes, read up in the ST1100 section.

Thanks Guys.I was wondering if it might be over charging or something, but it seems to be a common trait going by the number of post here and elsewhere.

Very common with the 1100 to blow the Left side, even happens to a lesser degree on the 1300 and on the left side.....


Couple of ways around it, add an additional 40W 12v automotive relay into the harness behind the headlights for clean pure regulated power and it goes away providing your bulb holder is secure in the first place....OR as Johnny mentioned move to aftermarket H4globes, you can either buy or make the bulb holder or just carefully trim the bottom tags on the H4 globe. If your trimming use tin snips or similar and not a Dremel that can cause vibration to the filament 

Plus the H4 option is far cheaper than replacing the 45/40 Honda bulb and you have more bulb colour (K) options.

I did the H4 conversion and still had to replace the left one every twelve months or so, but then the roads around here are a 'series of interconnecting potholes'.
