The front tyre slipped on a few corners where cracks had been patched  in the road :eek

Those "road snakes" are treacherous even when dry.  I encountered them northbound a couple of weeks ago when they were quite fresh and nearly put her down.  They are less hazardous as they age.

Good report with lotsa pix.  You experienced one of the FR phenomena- a time of doubt about the venture, followed by a short rest and a significant recovery.  Like Johnny's 10 minute sleep that seemed like an hour or more- any break is very beneficial.      :thumbs

Thanks mate, it was a very memorable adventure :thumbsup

It's been a big week at OzSTOC.    I left home on Saturday 12th and rode east for the Blackwood Vic RTE.  My plan was then to hit the coast north of Sydney and play tourist for a few days, but the dirty weather around Sydney ended that idea, so I stayed inland and arrived at Coffs Harbour a few days early, so I played tourist there instead.

Gadget has posted a most comprehensive report of the OzSTOC IBA ss1600k ride and I have nothing to add to the story.    For me the ride was a personal challenge, and included some milestones.  I had never sat through 450km before, never ridden those distances in the dark (not so dark anymore with my newish spotties), and of course, never ridden 1770km in a day before, with my longest being just over 1,000km.    I learned a lot about my own strengths and weaknesses, how I could manage better next time, and potential improvements to the bike, after stating very publicly that my farkling was finished.  I must say that I loved the experience of the IBA ss1600k, and slowed down and savored the experience of riding back into the servo at the finish.   Congratulations to all the finishers, who together have upheld the principles of safe long distance riding.

I echo the words of others and thank TJ for his preparation, advice and organization, thanks to all of the experienced long distance riders for their support, encouragement and advice, and to Chris and Jean for being there to see us off and return safely, and for looking after the start and finish documentation.  Our BBQ at the Motel on our return was a great way to debrief.  Unlike many long distance rides, this one was not a solo effort, and each of us newbies were well supported, before, during and after the ride.   A big thanks also goes to Abe, my riding companion for the whole trip, who made the trip so much easier.

I arrived back home at 4.30 yesterday arvo, still a bit tired and sore, after ten days and 6,000 km on the road.   Now, where to next!!!!!

When is the next Ozstoc group Iron Butt ride? Whilst the Perth RTE next march would be a good opportunity I am unlikely to make that as we have committed to ride there in October 2016 with another old riding friend and Leanne is not so keen to cross the Nullabor twice though you never know she may be more agreeable by next year? Of course I could go on my own but the ST purchase was to recapture the 2 up riding that we had lost whilst raising children & we are slowly making our way back (its a pity we no longer have the freedom to travel at the same speeds) and to Lea's credit she sat on the pillion perch non complaining for just shy of 6,000km in 10 days (within the 10 days she did get 2 days rest in Canberra & 1 day in Swan Hill so maybe I am being too easy on her?) of cold, wind & drizzle for our recent ANZAC jaunt.

Thanks guys :hatwave
It's something I should have done ages ago.
But as I now found myself stuck at home with very little I can do :fp I now have the time to get a few small things done that I haven't for some time :thumbsup
(well the things that don't take much effort anyway :H)
