Battery terminal nut's
« on: June 21, 2013, 12:21:17 PM »
So you get your new bike farkle all fitted up and now its time to connect it to the battery.
You know the deal...the little captive nut sits down in its pocket and the bolts too short to pick it up and start the thread. :||||
Hmmm longer bolt maybe. :-(((

Better still. Take a short offcut end of one of those 3mm cable ties. About 3 inches long and fold it in half so its like plastic tweezers.
Now without any rings or cable ends , take the bolt and just start the thread so you can pull the nut up a bit above the hole in the side of the terminal.
Then slide the folded end of your new cable tie tool under the nut from the side ...or...through the round hole on the battery terminal.
Gently undo the terminal bolt, locate all your cable ends and gently start the bolt back into the terminal nut.
Once the thread starts you can pull the cable tie tool out, tighten the bolt and job's done.

No sparks, no screwdriver balancing act nothing.

I don't know about you but I always thought the ends off cable ties make up allot of waist. I finally found a use for one at least.
Persevere...My Dad did.

I saw Brock do a good one which sorted this problem out. :thumbs

He took about a 1cm length of outer plastic sheathing from some jumper lead cable and inserted it under the nut prior to loosening it off. This stopped the nut dropping down, problem solved. Plastic was then left in situ for next time. :runyay

I put foam earplugs behind the nuts, leave them permanently.

You lot are really clever. :thumb       I swear and curse and fiddle around with little screwdrivers, trying to lift the nut.   :cuss

I don't know about the ST13, but the ST11 has a metal strap on the positive terminal that can be used to attach any extra connections without using the battery bolt - just drill a hole and use another bolt.
