New member intro
« on: August 04, 2019, 09:25:02 PM »
Hi all, Keith is my name, my wife is Sandy and we live in Bunbury, WA, Usher to be precise.

We have just bought our first Honda, a 2002 ST1100 Police model, has a Corbin seat, but otherwise I believe is stock. Previous bike was a Yammie XJR1300 2000 model.

Hi keisan and welcome to OzSTOC from SA.   :hatwave    I also went from an XJR1300 to my ST1300 back in 2009.   The XJR was a fantastic looking bike with plenty of grunt, but the ST is the better tourer.  I'm sure you will enjoy the Forum and the "new" bike.

Well after riding the ST for a couple of weeks now, I have changed the engine oil and filter, air filter and have just received a Gates timing belt which I will fit shortly once I pull the boat out of the shed to get some room to strip the bike down. My first impressions are that is an awkward bike to handle when stopped as I'm not tall enough to put my feet flat on the ground but that ceases to be a problem once you are riding. Handling is reasonable but rides a bit rough on bumpy roads with a bit of jarring (time to look at the seals and oil in the forks).

Nice amount of torque and pulls away beautifully from low RPM's when to lazy to change down a cog. I'm finding the gear change a bit notchy but I feel by adjusting the height of the gear lever down a bit it may suit me better and make my changes smoother. I'll do that when the bike is stripped to do the timing belt. Cosmetically there are chips and scratches on the paint work nothing too major and the bike looks good except when you look more closely, it will do me. The wife has mentioned that she gets a bit of wind buffeting on the pillion and I have seen other Ozstoc members saying the same.

Cheers, keisan

You could try a Laminar Lip?

There is a good explanation here:
http://www.amcmotorcycles.com/contents/en-uk/d3038_Laminar_Lips.html

I used one back when I was riding a ST1100 and it worked great :thumbsup
