Aqua Boxes... anyone use it?
« on: February 25, 2013, 10:48:19 AM »
This item looks pretty good to keep yer bits n pieces dry, and you can still (apparently) use your smartphone touch screen through the flexible cover (according to the text).

Any OzSTOC Members wan't to add anything?

Use one with my iPod (non touch) RAM mounted to the clutch reservoir.....had it on the ST1100 and just put back on the 1300, works well have Stereo plug and iPod cig charger leads come in through the rear of the Aqua box and sealed with silicon.....if you purchase one remember to account for plug etc to go into your device when choosing box size.

Cant use a touch screen throught the rubberized window of the Aqua box.

Changed from using the iPhone for tunes back to the iPod as its now all hard wired into Aqua box.....when using phone had to screw in stereo lead every time on and off bike was a pain....Music by Bluetooth from phone to Bikercomm was not upto scratch.

cheers

Get some conductive thread and sew into a finger tip of your glove OR if your wearing summer/mesh non water proof gloves.....stick your finger in ya gobb....a wet gloved finger will solve your problem.

Maybe grasshopper guts works just as well as spit?

As you all know by now I'm a technophobe , but I just bought a Optrix set up for my iPhone. Preliminary test proved pretty good but similar problem, wouldn't work with glove on. Might had to spit on it.
I'm hoping to trial that this weekend , IF THIS RAIN EVER GOES AWAY.  :cuss

I bought one of these, off this ebay seller, with a 1" RAM ball attached.

http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Dedicated-Waterproof-Tough-Case-for-the-Samsung-Galaxy-S2-SII-i9100-/140856169805?pt=AU_MobilePhoneAccessories&hash=item20cbae954d

I have ridden through some pretty heavy rain, for many hours at a stretch, and never had a problem. USB tails out of the bottom and is powered by my "cig" lighter outlet. Screen is touch sensitive (it must be a conductive). Works just as if there wasn't a case. All buttons are still accessible from the outside of the case. If I have a problem, it is that I have to remove the phone from its usual gel cover before it goes into the case. I leave it in the case until such time that I no longer need it to be waterproof. In reality it only takes a few seconds to remove the phone from the case, or the case from the phone - whichever way you want top look at it.

I always use the supplied lanyard as a safety, but thankfully, have never needed it.

Serves as my music source, GPS and phone, all through BT. I use a Finn Moto (www.finnmoto.com.au) cheap as chips BT set. Does almost all of the things I want it to. Also allows me to make a call (to the last dialled number), even if separated from the bike (up to about 100 metres) - one of those features you aim to avoid having to use. I would never make a call when riding, but will receive one if the situation allows it to be done safely - if not I can reject incoming calls at the press of a button on the BT. No big price-tag either. I can also chat to my pillion, when she feels the need.

Lots of other models available

Buying "Big Brand" technology can become very expensive if you want to experience anything near the bleeding/leading edge. The Finn Moto will most likely work at least until I want to "upgrade".

A search on here or the us site will give  you access to the instructions for modding this for use on the ST.

As for the aquabox, they are ok but would not suggest using one for the iPhone.  There are also some cheaper options out there for the samsung as mentioned above

I have one of these but have since switched to a new system. Originally I had an aquabox ram mounted to my dash shelf to hold a garmin nuvi gps. I could use the touch screen fine with no issues. The one thing that turned me off this was having the bulky box sitting there in front of me. It did do the job though. In saying that, after some time of riding with this setup on warm days especially, the rubber seal would often role off the edges which became annoying to regularly have to reseat. You can get replacements though easily enough. I have since changed to the Ram Xgrip universal mount and my iPhone for GPS. Will talk more about this in a new thread.
