ST1100P Hazard lights.

Some one mentioned that they had a problem with their hazard lights not working unless left or right turn is selected (ignition must be on for this to work). The fault is either a faulty hazard flasher, or its not there. The hazard flasher is the relay looking thing in a black socket, that is tucked into the ducks arse with the rest of the police wiring harness.

That was me, I'm not sure but I think the rely might be missing - next time I take the back apart I'll have a look.

No need to take anything apart, its just lying there at the rear of the seat space. Just pop the seat n take a look, unless you have a solo bike, then its a slightly different story.

Yep it's solo seat.  Not a massive job but it is a pain, I'll have a look next time I take the cowl off but it's not worth it just for the hazard light relay.

I have an ST1100P and found my flasher relay hiding up front next to the headlights. I have no relays in the rear of the bike. I have about 6 relays up front, 3 on each side of the headlight. Though mine is the last of the 1100P's so that may make a difference. I bought a heap of sticky labels and marked what each relay is for future reference. Found a flasher for indicators, and hazards. Then a strobing relay for the emergency lights.

Unusual to find the Hazard relay up the front, do the hazards go off when you press the hazard switch or do you need to turn on the indicators as well.

My hazards work without the indicators being on. They also work with the ignition off, and the key removed. I believe they did this so people couldn't steal the police bike while they were pulled over, but still have the bike visible on the side of the road.

Well thats good, they work as designed. Can you posy a pic of the wiring cluster in the tail of your bike?? Unless its still in solo config, that makes access not so easy.

I have fiddled with the wiring a little to pre-wire in some farkles that I have planned. I have used the police wiring for the radio and the flashers to set up for a set of spotlights that i plan to run under the mirrors, and for a power output on the dash for a GPS and maybe MP3 player. But I will take a photo next time I have the seat off for you.
