Perhaps it is as simple as.  "Who has come from the furtherest place from the venue?"

Do we really need this award?
Let's put a chalk board in the camp kitchen and allow riders to record their distance to the venue if they so wish.

Just to put this to rest these are the awards that will be presented at this years National Rally in QLD.....

1. "Member of the Year" - Selected jointly by the OzSTOC Team and Moderation team over the last 12 mths.

This is Awarded to the member who has consistently been proactive within the club, assisted fellow members and displayed the spirt of the club and its values. (Already selected for engraving purposes)

2. "Best Presented ST". - Selected by the previous years winner if present at rally

This award can go to any ST of any aged just because of the way the ST is presented on the day, the award is only open to ST's.

3. "Most Charismatic ST" - Selected by the OzSTOC Team

This award is for the ST that despite natures best intentions this charismatic bike just refuses to lay down and keeps plugging on in true ST spirit.

4. "National Rallies Silliest Moment" - Selected by the OzSTOC team.

You stuff up and we get a giggle out of it you will soon hear about it on awards night......as some can already attest.

5. "OzSTOC National Rally Wildcard award" - Selected by the OzSTOC team after feedback from members.

This is a wildcard award for any situation that takes our fancy at the time, it could be for a good deed or a particular grand effort that deserves a special mention..... :think1

So be on your best behaviour kiddies, shine up those ST's and do good unto others  :p

I'd also like to withdraw my nomination to win the "Most Charismatic OzSTOC Member" this year. I'd like to see someone other than myself win it for a change!

Quiet the opposite Sabie  :grin by removing this award and replacing it with another being the "Wild Card Award" it gave far greater eligibility to all members.....the longest distance travelled award only put a very select few members in the pool to chose from  :popcorn

We have limited this year to the 5 awards for a number of reasons including purchase and supply. OzSTOC and our supporters pockets are only so deep  :think1

We also agreed that having a number of smaller awards took the shine away from the major presentations.

I think we all agree who have attended past National Rallies, that the real award we all receive is the reward of attending  :runyay and having the chance to ride, feast, chat with fellow members of this outstanding club  ;-*

I disagree ST2UP, the longest distance award was the only award that was open where the membership could see the process whereby the most kilometres travelled equalled a winner. The winner should change with each new year due to State rotation.

Now all of the awards have been taken behind closed doors and the winner of each category is chosen by a select few which is not open open to scrutiny.

I feel there should be an "Award Committee" which is made up of a representative from each State and who are not part of Management or the Managements Clique of mates.

Nominations for each category should be submit or called for by management at the end of the year(or a date to be chosen) and the committee selects the winners of each category. There is no need for the committee to meet as all deliberations could be conducted by the forum private message or email and the winners names presented to management prior to the rally by a date to be determined.

This would prevent any nepotism and any cronyism creeping in.

I don't disagree with you at all Sabie, accept....

we are not a registered club, we don't have a committee, no one has ever been elcected, we don't even have an ABN, the Bank account is still under me with 2 other signatories, in fact I still own the website domain name.

OzSTOC was built on 95% a democracy, and the other 5% is what Desiel and Streak say was going to happen, to which we always consulted many people on what moves we took (which you where one), now that breakdown applies to Saaz, ST2UP and Pocket Stocker.

Diesel and I selected the above people to run OzSTOC when we stood down, some people like it, some don't, it was our decision.

this is not a negative response, just giving you clear facts that while everything your saying is very true in the right Club setup, but OzSTOC is not that setup.

as for changing the award from longest travelled to the wild card award, that was MY idea that I took the national team who like it and went with it.

the awards your talking about apart from the Member of the year, is all awarded to people at rally for things that happen at rally, so there is no way we can have committiees to decide all that.

it has always been decided around a table at 5pm in the evening after national rally ride to see what events have unfolded.

I know it is what you would like to happen, but this is not the setup that will ever happen.

Diesel and I always said if we eve had to go committees and fully fledged club status we are out, as the drama and politics is not worth it.

we have an amazing group of people here that have assembled over the last 4 years, I love it just the way it is.

I have full trust in the 3 people in charge at this time, just like when they hand it over when they are done, they will have full trust as well.

Cheers

Streak

Hi Sabie,
I don't usually buy into this type of discussion but, even though I agree with you in principle, the reality is that these so called "Awards" are just a bit of fun at the National Rally dinner. Sure, they are arbitrary and not particularly serious. Nobody I know comes along hoping to win one. I am not being critical of your comment, in fact, as I said, I agree, I guess I am just saying, don't stress about something that is not that important. Are you gong to be at Toowoomba?. If so, Ros and I look forward to catching up with you.
Cheers
Dick

Hi Sabie

Sorry our limited leadership skills and decisions have again displeased you. I guess we will have to try and apply ourselves even further.  :Stirpot  :grin

We are learning that to see the club grow in a direction it is so very important to listen to feedback from all members. The feedback that we regularly receive is reassuring us that the club is heading in the right direction for the overwhelming majority of people, and that I think is the best we can hope for for a club that is informal like ours.

It may be the 10 hr shift I just finished but I know that if I borrow a free book from the library and I dont enjoy it I dont continue to read chapter after chapter of the book I dont enjoy and I dont agree with, I put it back on the shelf and grab another book and see if it is to my liking.

Good njght all and cant wait to see you all at Toowoomba.
