Kick Stand
« on: April 25, 2019, 12:50:09 PM »
Hi,

I removed the side stand on my ST1300 to replace the spring. While it was off I gave it a clean and lubricated it. Now it doesn't turn the engine off when I go into gear with the side stand down. The plug is connected ok and I have continuity up to the green sidestand plug under the left fairing.  I have shorted the two connectors at the green plug (so as to isolate the sidestand) and it still wont shut the engine off. I think I may of blown a fuse somewhere. Can anyone tell me where the fuse is for the sidestand as it does not seem to be listed in the workshop manual.

Sidestand doesnt have a fuse. You may have not fitted the switch (its in the bolt pivot assembly) correctly, and its indicating sidestand up

I bypassed the switch by shorting the two connectors and it still did not shut the engine off.

The switch should be open when down, remove the link and it should stop

I tried opening the switch  and it still does not stop the engine. I checked the clutch switch and that is working fine. However, I removed the block diode and that has no continuity on any of the three pins. So, I am guessing that the diode could be the problem as I believe it is in the kick stand circuit.

From just looking at the circuit, the side stand switch just places an earth at one of the ECU pins (the clutch is connected in parralel) and tells the ecu that its safe to run the engine. The diode pack is not in that circuit that I can see.

Ok, thanks for that. I will start a wire trace for continuity to see where the fault is.

I appreciate your advice.

As the problem started after working om the side stand, start there. It may just be the way the switch was mounted.
